I think i've decided on the 3582 as it won't be struggling as much to make the power I want
ill probably start small and then go big.
when i get bored of the 3076 ill go the 3582.

after reading this thred i had a head ake, there is so much thery in it that i feel sorry for who evea stared it . alot of ppl are saying read this and read that , what you have to keep in mind is that altho garret turbos have a huge range of turbos there based on a massive scale as are there recomended power figgers , flow rates and so on , but it is all just a recomendation and ppl like gcg will tell you that . so be careful and dont read into it to much as you might end up comming out more confused than befor you started , go with some one you trust or in a set up you have driven/been in . if you want my 2 cents , a 3582r with a .63 rear is what i have used on a manuel 1j befor and found it very responcive and sweet FA lag . but thats just my 2 cents
Or you could just listen to those that have done 700+ turbo kits for 40+ engines and base your decision off educated opinion and experience rather than forum speculation. (not directly at you negatively grim boy)

kyle no offence taken , every one has diffrent opiouns , dont think we have evea met tho bud and what i put out wasnt a forum speculation, like you i build turbo cars for a living , spoke to you last week actly , you might rember company called grim performance !!!!! every one builds cars diffrently as i know i do , just recently i build a r32 gtst , as we all know they make sweet fa power at the best of times and every one told me that the turbo i used on it wouldnt work as the exhast was to small , the front was to big , the ratios didnt match etc , pritty much every one thought it was wrong , funny how the car made 270rwkw a cupple of days later , and had full boost of 18 psi buy 3000rpm . look all im saying is that every one has a diffrent way of doing it , i like to build cars that are very throttly with big mid range number and most of them seem to make impressive top end numbers for what they are with the set ups they have , in my opioun a 1j dose net need a .82 rear to make the power this guy wants , but that just the way i do it , this is not directed at any one in particlar even tho it might look like im haveing a go at kyle im not , i actly have worked on a fue cars latly with his manufolds and must say i am very impressed .

Just read through this is a informative good thread for me as ive been looking for info on the subject ...
I only want to make 3-350 easy whp & i keep getting steered to the gt3582 mainly cause of the head room if want more bug bites , but im interested in the waste gated one mainly ease of fitment & no cost of xt/gate & plumbing ..
My ? is with the internal gate would staying with .82 be ok.
Cheers
Keith: Ps i know FA about turbos & their housing size affects .
I just bought exactly the turbo you're speaking about for my 1J... with internal gate.
Its been with my tuner for two weeks while I was overseas. I got back only to find thatt hey STILL don't have the turbo. Not impressed, i expected the car to be ready![]()
Dan
ive found the internal gate versions dont like holding low boost pressures, if it does have this prob (as i think it will) you have 2 options 1 fit an external gate or 2 run a restrictor plate in the exhaust (not ideal but it works)

not when they start going over 25psi (only 1 instance of this happening) as most ppl wont want to run martini or elf turbomax ALL the time.Originally Posted by chris davey

8.3 et PB 169 MPH PB
I reckon I'll hit 22psi on pump fairly easily
never said you cant make boost on pump, its how long your engine will last at that boost on pump fuel before it a fries a piston or b has a rod let go from detonation
8.3 et PB 169 MPH PB
or you could just go lpg .........
GA23(never finished-now with cracked block) JZX83 (Tyre eater) 3sgte AE86. by now i should know better.
