I Stuffed up big time! help needed..

just changed the clutch on my brothers daihatsu feroza and had the engine out to change all seals and do the timing belt.. etc

anyway i changed the gearbox and transfercase oils after everything was back in and thought that both the gearbox and transfer case used the same oil so after having trouble filling in the transfer case i put about 1 litre too much in the gearbox and quickly put the filler bolt back on, thinking that it would drain in to the transfer case as well.

so my brother goes back to sydney yesterday and he tells me today that there is a big puddle of gearbox oil under the car.. so it looks like its blown the front gearbox seal..

what i want to know is

will this leak all the oil out?

does it have to be changed or will it be fine once the level is right

never changed a front seal on the gearbox but does it usually mean taking apart or is it behind the thrust bearing..

well the fill point is about the same level as the input shaft,

get your bro under the car and undo the fill nut and drain what ever excess is in there.... drive and re-inspect....

the seal isnt under any sort of prssure, unless somehow dmaged it when you the the clutch,

Blake is right about the gear box but you still need to top up the transfer case to the correct level. Possibly get the gear box breather checked for a blockage as well.

cheers guys.. will tell him to keep an eye on it.. just a little worried that oil will spit out as the car is being driven as it held the oil in there for about 400k's and then gave up, the seal must be stuffed
