    Default Validity of reputation?

    Hi,

    http://www.toymods.net/forums/member.php?u=733

This is a link to user ira11y's 'all posts by this user'. How does he have 30 reputation after posting only 11 times and contributing no generally useful or technical info in that time? In fact in one thread he's selling something and slandering the intelligence of others.

    Cheers,
    Michael

EDIT: URL updated, cheers Callum, Jeremy.

do you have a beef with this particular person or?

it is possible to get high rep on one post if enough people feel that it is interesting, enough, and moderators have a rep power of 10 or so i think so if he posted a really interesting post, then he could have got that high

    Hi,

Hmmmm, very interesting. The only way one would get that many rep points for so few posts - where most are asking for information, would be a lot of people voted or he copped a few big ones from the mods.

As I have previously mentioned, I think the 10-point allowance for being a mod or admin is absurd and implies they are more knowledgable than others and therefore more worthy of giving points than other members. I think this is wrong and they should earn their points like everyone else. They have the ability to remove points or whatever with their mod power, so there's no need to go nuke on people.

But, maybe it wasn't a mod or admin who pumped up the rep on this user. Maybe there's a group of people who have decided that they will rep each other and by doing so they can get their rep points up quickly.

In either case, to me it appears to be an abuse of the rep system and it makes it a mockery. I have seen much more worthy questions and answers that receive little or no rep points.

As a financial member, not only does my membership fees go into running this forum, its operation also reflects upon me - same for those that have donated funds (I support Toymods).

Can we please have this incident investigated? I'm interested to see what is going on here and what response, if any, is going to be applied.

you mean the one where the guy thought he was selling either axles or FWD driveshafts, instead of AE86 driveshafts

I do agree the question was just as stupid as the response.
I realise that a mod can rep +10, but have a look at the posts on the link which was corrected above by wde_bdy. I mean, out of those 11 posts there's really nothing of note there?
No problem with the user, just noticed it and thought it to be erroneous.

edit: toymods club member (and forum member)
I have read the FAQ and at no stage does it say that membership with the club will have any effect on someone's rep, only that it allows priviledged access to some forum features. Other club members have started out on the regular 10 rep. We're talking about 20 rep points here. I mean, he's just joined, suddenly got 20 rep for posting info of seemingly no great significance...
