Well its time for the 2007 Alpine Rally

Where:
Lakes Entrance 310km East from Melbourne

When:
24 & 25 Nov

Background:
The Alpine Rally is Australia 's oldest continually running rally and the second longest in the world next to the Monte Carlo rally. The Alpine is steeped in tradition, originally run by the RACV as a “car trial” up over Mt Hotham, the Alpine has worn various disguises but was arguably at its peak during the 1970s and 1980s when it was run as an Australian Rally Championship event.

The first car won't reach the finish until 2 pm on Sunday having completed at least 380 km of competition and driven over 700 km in total.
It will run as a day/night/day format comprising of 19 stages.

The guy who drives the EL/EF (whatever it is) is a really good (nutter) driver, this is his 3rd Falcon in 2 years i think, he always puts on a show

When they say blind rally i think it means they have not had the oppertunity to go through and take notes them selfs, they have to rely on notes taken by the organizer which would be basic notes not mentioning any obsticles like pot holes and shit.

I don't think i would wanna rely on a Nav, they tell me to "turn left" when theres a bridge above me on a freeway.

The rallies you see on TV are different to club rallies. In a pacenoted rally, the crews get a chance to drive the course beforehand and make notes of every corner. In a blind rally, the crews don't see the course until they get there. They are given a roadbook which gives them directions to (and through) each stage and tells them about hazards* - other than that, the driver just drives the roads as he sees them.

* - Corners over blind crests, drop offs etc.

You don't get the road book until just before the rally (sometimes the night before), so trying to set up a GPS would be pretty much impossible.
