The Angry 18R-G is having some issues, Generally idles fine, and cruises fine, but crack the throttle and it starts missing on 1 or 2 cylinders.
This started rather quickly, I am pointing the finger partially at the Webers, but before i send it to get tuned I want to rule out other causes.
I have changed the plugs, checked the rotor cap and rotor (has electronic ignition) could be the coil, but I don't know how to test this. Fuel appears to be fine at the filter, leads are in good condition.
Its really not drivable ATM and I'd like to sort this so I can get to work next week.
Cheers
Simon

Please don't point the finger at the Webbers. Slimmy, myself and that glorified go-kart pilot have nothing to do with it![]()
Is the miss transitory? You say it only presents when you open the throttle, but does it persist if you hold it open? And can you open the throttle slowly with no ill effects?
Also, what's your advance mechanism doing?
If the engine behaves in steady state, but chucks a spaz with rapid throttle changes, I'd point my finger at the carby tune also.
Nikita the RA23 is almost finished.
Yes it persists. It is like flooding the engine but constantly.

I can rule out the coil. So Now I have new rotor cap, new rotor button, new plugs, new coil.
I couldn't find my timing light to see what the timing is doing, but the car can free rev, it's not entirely happy but it does rev. I can also cruise in 5th at 110km/h on flat road but as soon as I hit an incline and I need to give it some to keep at the speed it starts again. I can hold the revs in any gear up to about 4000rpm without major issue but any move to accelerate and it cracks the shits at me.
I noted also there appears to be fuel leaking (recent) from the top of the carbs from the wing nuts that are on the top of the bowl.
If everyone in in general agreement that it is the carbs I'm fine with that. I just don't want unseen issues when it gets tuned.

have you checked ALT charge rate, if its low it can cause a miss under load.
New Alt, New Battery.
Beige.... The new Black!!!
have you checked it tho? regs do blow.
ive had the same problem with the last to alts on my 1g,
cruising and driving along fine, soon as you put load on it it starts to miss,
Your biggest problem is you are running 48's on the street.
What kind of fuel filter are you running? Try another one but get a V8 one, just buy a Ryco fuel filter, cheap. Try it you have nothing to lose.
If the car is running alright at lower revs and starts farting around at higher revs its not getting enough fuel.
As for leakage from the carbs, webers do that and you just have to live it.
I reckon after it dynoed the blokes will recommend you down size your carbys to 45's.

what plugs u got
mine fucked me around for ages, just get std ones, but 6 heat setting

sounds very similar to what my engine is doing at the moment but not as bad as yours .when i put my foot down it hesitates then takes off i reckon its a carby tune issue its running a bit rich which i would suggest its flooding carbs then clearing out

Steve Very similar to yours, I ran a bottle of Carby Cleaner through it, and it is starting to come good after a long drive on a straight flat road.
I'm running 6 heat range plugs on it.
Fuel delivery is fine (first thing i checked)
Rosco I'd be happy to down size except the head has been ported to the 48's I'm keen to go back to 44 solexs.

After reading the thread again and seeing that you are running on the highway at 110kph in 5th gear, thats not good for the carbys or anything else. You basically have a race motor that you are driving as an every day streeter, those carbys are more happy reving up in the 6-7000rpm mark than trundling are the streets or highways.
So, you have answer your own question. As the car is not being driven to its full protenial, its clogging up on you and you are finding out about it now.
My advise, take that 18RG out and go and find another one just for the street otherwise eventually you will just wreak that motor.

roscos i agree with you. we are using these as daily drivers and sitting in traffic is not real good for these worked enginesOriginally Posted by Roscos
