Default Wasted spark to individual coils

Hey guys, i will try and keep this brief, i apologize in advance for my lack of car electrical skills, i know how to swing a soldering iron and thats about it..

I have a 4AGE/GZE powered vehicle, running a microtech LTX8. I was originally running GZE wasted spark coils until one caught on fire (you know, minor things), i then replaced and rewired up a pair of similar wasted spark coils out of a .. kia rio.

Basically, i'm worried about them (plugs are crap, the wiring was rushed so is crap too). I have done a few individual coil upgrades for friends' RB20s and the like, but they are already coil over plug so its easy...

Currently i have this (below): A common wire is split and is shared between both coils, each have an additional single wire going to them from the microtech (trigger?)

Is it as simple and as easy as wiring up the individual coils like this:

Thankyou for any help or suggestions, i appreciate it.

To me it looks right. Have you tried contacting Microtech for a diagram?

Thats what id be doing.........or searching the net for a microtech diagram

Seeing as though you are using a aftermarket ecu .....id wire it how they say.
P.S you will have to change settings in the ecu to let it know you have gone to a different coil setup + mabe the micro tech will need a different ignition module ?

There should be 4 ignition trigger wires coming out of the microtech which you connect in firing order for seperate coils. It may need to be reconfigured for seperate coils. The microtech you have has the ignitors built in as long as it is a LTX8 AND NOT A LT8.

There are diagrams on the website. www.microtechefi.com and you can contact them from there.

That looks right, basically you're replicating the double ended coils with two individual coils. I'd still be checking with Microtech to make sure they're right.

my only concern would be overloading the igniters, otherwise the wiring is fine

If the common power supply is 12v, as it should be, and you're concerened with possibly overloading the internal power supply transistor(s), not the transistors for the ignitors them selves, then how about using the common 12v wire to switch a simple relay that provides power directly from the battery to the coils? It is an LTX8, so it souldn't be a problem.

i was reffering to the igniter transistors themselves, switching the current flow for 2 coils instead of 1 to ground will generate more heat, and if not kill them soon, kill them in a shorter than expected time

It looks like to me it will still be in wasted spark mode because its still signalling two coils at a time.

Doesnt the microtech send a pulse down the 1&4 side and then down the 2&3 side?.

So that wiring would just be like wasted spark except that the coils arent joined together?

Test light on the coils when running to see if the 1&4 is sparking at same time?

yes, that is what he is trying to acheive, wasted spark, but on 4 coils instead of 2

thats even what it says in the thread title

Ahh ok i though he wanted to have single firing coils?

Well im thinking it would work.
