i woudlnt have thought the walbro is the problem for flow matt.

we used a walbro intank on my 1j setup into a surge tank through a 044 upto the rail and never had an issue. that made 520 rwhp through the auto and going by trap speed and weight it was more like 660 rwhp a the time.

could it be the size of the surge tank or maybe the 040 isnt enough?

as for queting them down, other than putting them inside some form of perspex box or something i havent seen any other ways to bring the noise down.

i am running 2 044's at present and ones noisy as hell the others not to bad.

The Original setup was a single walbro in the tank. And it proved to be insufficient. Apprently in the Is200 tank there is a very tight recess around the pump pickup to act like a bit of a surge tank. Brett thinks it may even be so tight as to be restricting the flow to the pickup.

Twinned walbros' wont fit into the pump recess, and so the new set up was made. A walbro pumping into a surge tank then a 040 to the rail.

    Plenty of flow, just noisey!

Unfortunately it is loud and unbecomming of what is a fairly civilised vehicle.

I am going to play with putting a stubby cooler on the pump this weekend and some rubber mounting of the entire surge tank assembly. The pump is screwed directly into the surge tank, and I imagine the entire tank is acting as a resonator.

The main problem with isolating the pump is that the tricky aluminum bracket the pump held by has been welded in place, and effectively welded closed.

To remove the pump I will have to evacuate the tank, unscrew the pump from the tank and slide it out, fit new rubber and slide it back in, screw it on etc.

I am reluctant to do this because it is messy and at this stage does not leak, knowing my luck removing it will open a whole can of worms I dont want to know about.

My 044 is quite too, lucky I guess. Its rubber mounted, but very external and the noise is not audible once the car is running.

Most externally mounted 044's have been quite noise both outside the car and inside the car. In the couple of times ive heard them they have been mounted on cars that have no trim apart from the front seats and a dash with about 90% of the cars sound deadening removed.

I would probably travel along with most of the suggestions above such as isolator mounts like above and like the ones suggested by Roadrunner. The stubby holder will also help and i think where it is mounted will probably have more of an influence on noise than the above suggestions. At the end of the day though everything will help so maybe your only option is to move it and isolate it also.

    i found a pic

My ae92 corolla has similar but probably larger rubber mounts with the bolts travelling through the bottom of the airbox, i would suspect that theres a few more cars with that setup too.

The only problem with this would be that the rubbers might not be big enough to fit around/through the good 4-5mm of plate on the pump mount. The airbox ones might work but i think that the ones around the reservoir bracket will be too thin. Kudos on the suggestion though.

ah ok, so the walbro alone was not sufficient. i miss understood. (edit just re read your first post, my eyes are painted on today) i can understand that being the case for sure.

my old setup had a cut piece of silicon from an intercooler pipe and it seemed to quiet it down a bit.

    good luck with it

If you dont care much about your fuel pump, spray some roof filler at it, cover it in that.. im sure that would absorb the sound

Rubber mounting the mount the chassis and rubber mounting the fuel pump to the mount. and alot of rubber around hte pump and also the stubby holder trick.

If it annoyed you so much and you need external you could maybe make some type of sound proofed box ?

    I like my spacefiller idea
