Default Noisey external mounted fuel pumps!

Has anyone successfully quietened thier externally mounted Bosch 040 pump?

Mine is mounted in a bracket with hard rubber grommets, the bracket is welded to the surge tank itself.

I need to quieten the pump as at slow speeds it is driving me crazy!

Ill try to take some pics, but if anyone has pics of thier "quiet" set up or any suggestions I would be grateful.

note: i already have a walbro intank pump feeeding the surge tank, dyno testing has proven that one walbro is not enough and I cant fit two into the IS200 tank. Hence the external 040.

Can you do the old 'stubby holder over the fuel pump' trick?

My external Walbro uses one of those stubby holder things Another thing you could do is fit a fuel pump resistor like some Toyota had from factory to drop the voltage to the pump at low throttle.

    2nd'd.
Drop the voltage to 9V while at idle/cruise.

"Apparently" some pumps don't like being run at lower voltages, so I'd check that before trying it.

044's and 040's are weird things, some seem to be quiet and some are loud as hell.

If it was me I'd bolt it to a solid part of the car which can't reverbrate easily, and use stacks of rubber/foam padding.

If you mount it to a solid part of the car without insulating the bracket you will still hear it. I know this because i've done it. Try putting it on some rubber mounts with the studs coming out either side of them.

    isolaters? good idea
most exhaust shps should be able to get them for you for about $7ea

they work well but make sure you get the soft rubber versions.

Mount a plate to a soild part of the car ie. rear bumper mount. Use those rubber insulators that go between the radiator and oil cooler on a rotary. Or some of a Fasset pump. I had a similar prob with a Holley blue pump. We soon discovered the sound was travelling down the fuel line. So we isolated that with some insulated fittings. Prob gone... Remember sound only travels in a strait line so a loop in the fuel line should help.
Same therory as a offset muffler..

Thanks heaps for the suggestions guys.

Ill post a pic of mine when I get round to it.

Unfortunately it is no tgoing to be an easy fix. I looked at it closely today and my options are limmited with the current configuration.
