    Default TA22 control panel

not really specific to the TA22 at all, but im pissing off my ignition barrel, and all my switches, and replacing them with a panel where the centre console used to be.

ive been thinking about it, and so far ive come up with:
    ignition (on/off)
    Engine start (Push Button Type)
    Lights-Low Beam (on/off)
    Lights-High Beam (on/off)
    windscreen wipers low (on/off)
    windscreen wipers high (on/off)

but i got stuck there, i know theres more shit ill need!?

can anyone see any issue with running a switch for each speed of the wipers? will having both high and low on (accidentally) cause meltdown and devastation?

car is completely stripped out, the only original thing im retaining is steering column, dash and handbrake (for now)

    cheers!!

    Indicators and hazards?

I would steer away from the lights being on two different switches cause youll have trouble getting it to work due to the hi/lo being negative switched especially if your running a SPDT relay. Although in factory form it would be quite easily and allow for both lights to be run simultaneously - although i doubt you would need this.

Im pretty sure that the wipers when switched to high run the low winding along with a secondary winding in the motor to increase speed. The single winding is used on its own for low speed.

indicators are staying on the stalk, about the only thing thats staying, just cause i took a ride in a new Mercedes ML350 or some shit, and the push button indicators pissed me off to no end.

    didnt think of the hazards!

other thing i was considering was, a switch for lights, and then a switch for hi or low beam running through it?!

and for the wipers, cheers, might rig up the same thing, on off switch with hi/low switch

I just though of that this arvo.

Theres a few ways you could do it really. If you run a relay and redo the wiring for the lights it will allow you to have a lower voltage drop, and run better lights ie higher wattage.

If you did run a relay you could go two ways with the lights. The first way which is probably easiest is run two switches having one turn the relay on, and the second switch grounding between high and low. Effecitvely with this setup once the first switch is on the lights will be on, the second switch will just choose whether its hi or low.

The way i think would be better is if you could get a switch with 3 positions, the first position is off, the second position is on, and the third is the hi beam. This also keep switches to a minimum.

The wiring for the wipers is quite easy. Once again just a switch (even the stock one in a panel would be perfect), then just run a power to it, a ground from it, and then just duplicate the rest of the wiring to the wiper motor. Btw the wiper motor also has its own ground.

don't forget that the light switch has a dimmer on the instrument cluster.
Why not use a rotary switch? the v dubs (volkswagon sp?) have them.
I made my own push button start on my 88 prelude located in the center console pocket, i fitted a smaller key for ignition on/off and it got annoying after a while.
If your really keen try a PLC. I've been doing some experiments on one (12 volt).
