You can always simply disconnect the power steering lines, fill the rack with oil and block off the PS lines...?

The turns lock to lock is prbly a little smaller so in that case it will be a little bit heaver than the proper manual rack...

I'm also yet to see or hear of a Celica Supra or Celica XX that had manual steering.

I also don't get why people want to remove it?
Buy the time you fit wide sticky tyres, a bit of caster, a bit of camber, and a sports steering wheel, its pretty damn heavy even with power steering.

And I don't know about others, but I get great feedback from the road, I don't feel disconnected at all.

Amen to that, I hop in the XX now and feel like I'm having to build up some arm muscles, the variable power assist in the JZA80 is waaay lighter until it firms up

    power steering sux...

but any way i have a stuffed sholder & holdig the steering wheel aggravates it as i have to hold it still..
with manual you can relax the arm & car will not wonder...
I've had many cars with & without.. & with a good wheel align manual is as light as power..

I drive RA40/60 with manual = no pain..
drive MA61 with power = pain..

i'd have thought less stress on the arm would mean less pain..?

hm.. to each his own.. and yeh there are some variants of the XA61 that don't have power steering, very very early models though, and if not mistaken use parts from RA-6X or so.. was told it was when they just started to seperate the two, hence some "oddities" in between? even if it was true, it would've been purely JDM and by now would be long at the bottom of the landfill..

id like to see an answer to this myself... would help out on a conversion im doing comming up soon,

manual steering rack would make more space under the hood...

how different are ra60 racks compaired to ma61 racks? if you ran every thing from rack back to steering wheel would it be possible?

FWIW - I know of two RA65s that have manual racks, mine and Tim Ottoways. Nark's RA60 has a manual rack too. I believe it must have been an option rather than a spec thing, as Nark's car was optioned with a power sunroof unlike my no-spec car.

RA6x with manual RA6x rack + RA6x power steering arms (+ coilovers + camber tops + castor rods) makes for very responsive steering with great feedback. But you can't have weedy 'I'm used to power steering' arms.

GA61XX - I have no idea what you are talking about with your last post. Why would a power rack need 'holding' to prevent wandering where a manual one wouldn't??? Sounds like toe/bump steer issues to me, rather than rack type :S

(Oh, CrUZida, some (neg) camber makes the steering *lighter* )

    Doesn't make sense?
Power assist doesn't kick in until you turn the wheel.
As a test remove the PS belt and go for a drive.
It will tell you if the problem is the power steering, or just a feature of the car (or possibly bad alignment/bushes)
