funny people, you dont like warming up your engine?
There is plenty of literature that would suggest that excessive idling has a negative effect on engines and some components. Search and see for yourself.

But from my own experience I don't think that the potential harm done by an extra minute or few idling is all that excessive. I warm my car up until the forged pistons stop slapping around and then drive off sedately until warmed up.

I go to a few car shows and the like which often means the car is idling around for hours each day. My plugs and components don't seem to exhibit any signs of fouling from incomplete combustion as some people seem to think would occur.

In the end most people will never keep their car long enough to ever find out if the warm up routine they used was good or bad for the engine and it components

but would you suggest jumping in your car first thing in the morning turning
on the car, wait for oil pressure slap it in reverse or whatever and take off on the
open road within 2 minutes, i mean i know old folks who even have heater's in their garage under the
sump to heat up the oil for a few min before they even think of starting the car

    cold metal, cold thick oil

i mean granted you can do it , but i always wait till my revs drop in the morning
before i start driving, and you can feel through the lack of performance when your engine
is cold that its just not a good thing,

fair enough maybe 5mins is a bit to long and when its real
cold the fuckers dont want to warm up until your out on the road
but we all know what trying to change in to reverse will do when the car
is either A: moving or B: reving at 2000rpm , bit of a crunch

im sorry to dribble on but

all we need is just a little patience

no-one is suggesting taking off as such... just baby it along.. no need to floor it....

cold metal yes... cold thick oil? maybe in years gone past... ever poured 5W50 synthetic? it's pretty damn thin at room temp, and not that much different when hot.

i typically jump in the car, change CDs, buggerise around for a bit, and then just go..

in winter when it's minus 20 degrees, i will likely turn car on, turn heater on, lock car running, and go inside until the inside of the car is at least zero degrees.. then run outside again

in australia, with the correct oil selected... you shouldn't need to wait for 5 mins before driving.

I was wondering the same. I was told to push the clutch pedal in when starting the car and that's what I've always done. Is it better/worse or doesn't make a difference?

with the clutch business, personally i depress the clutch, start engine, wait for oil
    pressure, release clutch,

your engine will crank slighty quicker with clutch depressed, but when it boils
    down there is no difference
