    30 - power
    85 - +ve from battery
    86- earthed

so... 85 is from battery, 86 goes to earth... where does 30 go? do i wire up both the wires that go to the coil, to the relay, then just plug in 87 and 87A on the coil? sound right?

thanks for that... i'll look out for it again on the manual .. at first the hand-controller doesn't look to friendly, so we'll see thanks again for the info..

ill have to argue on that one, 87 and 87a are only on changeover relays.

with a changeover relay when its not switched on, the power coming in pin30 will be leading directly out of pin 87a and only once you switch the relay on will you have power to 87 but it WILL take power away from 87a at the same time.

if you use a 5 pin make sure its not a changeover (as indicated by 87 +87a on the bottom of it) and then you can use both the 87's to run your coils.

    cheers

    Here's a pic.

The bottom relay is the one you should look for. The top is a changeover relay.

Good point Linden, thanks for picking that up.

Interestingly though the el-cheapo Narva 30amp relay I used on the weekend was a 5 pin and layed out as '87' and '87a' and wasn't a changeover type, it's diagram was the same as the bottom relay in the pic above but with the 'a' after 87.

Just something to be aware of I guess.

so.. 30 on the relay is where i plug the original wires from the coil into? then 87 and 87A will be going back to the coil?

30 pin is the 12V+ from the battery.

.....and as mentioned and pictured if you buy a quality relay for the purpose you need it will have two 87 pins (non-changeover type) that will both provide the 12V+ that is connected to pin 30 when the relay is energised.

    30 - 12v From Battery
87+87 - Power out to Coils
    85 - Ground
86 - Original power to coil

Or something around the lines of that.
