    Default Hi Flowing ct12's

I am sure its been asked before but I am after people opinions. I got a set of Blitz ct12's of a 1ggte which are already hiflowed from Blitz. Curious on the cost of high flowing these units further and how much can be gained vs cost. I know people have hiflowed their ct26 and some 1J CT12’s so I am just after some opinions. Aftermarket turbo's are not an option. I am willing to part with up to $1800.
Just like to know how much more efficient can make it and how much does it affect spool up times. So if anyone had experience hiflowed turbos please fill me in on the difference.

Also who would be the people to call down in Melbourne for the job.

    Thanks all

A few people have had 2JZ turbos high-flowed and it cost more like $1800 each, so I don't think you'll be doing it on that budget.

what about some 1jz cores and wheels inside the 1g comp/turbine housings. it couldnt be too hard to do it and all that would be required is a lathe and a good machinist.

if you used the factory ceramic rears id say it would still spool well and would give you a fair whack more top end.

i can get it done for you if you supply the bits, but untill i see them to compare i couldnt possibly give you a price.

how would you go using 2j cores in 1j turbos or even the front wheels? is this what they use to high flow 1j turbos? could this also work with the above aplication?

can be done. ive used a US steel wheeled turbo in a starlet ct9 turbine housing and it is extremely responsive but doesnt like to run below 18psi. so in a short answer yes you could run 2jz cores but it would be fairly laggy with only 1L pushing them thats why id go for 1j cores which can still do 240rwkw.

I think Pete was starting to ask how 2JZ cores would go in 1JZ turbo's i.e. are the 2J front wheels able to be retrofitted into 1J housings and would it be a good mod.

i have heard of people using steel ct9 cores out of a 3sgte i think. but i think it was the rear only.

A 3SGTE would be an interesting thing with a CT9 strapped to the side of it, all over by 4000rpm I reckon.

I can see that you could potentially get a set of CT12a cores into the CT12 housings but I seriously doubt they'll make the same power as a full set of CT12a's. Mind you even if they do how much is a set of rebuilt cores put into a set of CT12 housings going to cost? I suspect it will cost more than a GT30 plus y pipe and piping modifications.

yeah, by the time you have added up the cost of hi floing and modifying these, you would probably be better off going single turbo.

That's all well and good if you want the single etc. Many people like the stock under bonnet appearance and drivability of the CT12a's but would like just alittle more grunt. Hence the 2J compressor wheel with 1J exhaust wheel question comes about.

A well-sized single turbo will out-perform the CT12A's, including drivability. Remember we're talking nearly 20yo technology here, turbos have come a long way since then.

i dont think the turbos need to have anything done to them. especially if they are already hi flo'd.

Toyota demonstrated themselves that a correctly matched single turbo will make the same power with less lag and a lower boost threshold than the rubbish old turbo's they were using. Sure the single turbo 1J has VVTi as well but if that can get the max torque revs down from 4800rpm to 2800rpm then I'll start designing a VVTi setup for my 3S right now.

I don't understand the fascination with sticking with rubbish old technology especially when it costs more, makes less power, and has a higher boost threshold than a good reliable modern alternative. But then I generally try and use logic for most of my modification decisions, and then get the one that puts the biggest smile on my face

11.0 out of rubbish turbos isnt bad then.

if you want to do it on a budget, you can still make them go pretty hard.
