Haha, slightly off topic. Haven't touched it in a few months. Very poor form.

Ba, just remove the cams from the engine, its what.. 8 bolts max?
Thats what the wreckers are for, seeing how hard/easy stuff goes in and out

T865... took me quite a mission to get that too...

    [RANT]

rang repco, and i asked the guy if they had a timing belt for a 1G in stock, told him which cars the engine was in, and that it was typically an import motor... so... of he goes, puts the phone down, and i wait for 5 mins... then someone pics up the phone giving me the typical phone greeting, and i just told them i'm after the timing belt and someone is getting it for me... so that's all good... phone goes down on the counter again... and another few mins goes by.... and again, someone pics up the phone with the typical phone greeting... AGAIN i tell them what i'm after, and he replies... ahh... yep just let me grab the book here... and without putting down the phone grabs the book and tells me there's 3 variants, and i'll need to bring in a sample...

    SOOOOOO

i finish work and bring in the sample (which i happened to have in my car) take it in there, and ask the kid at the counter.. and he's like... ahh yes.. .the 1G... that's in like... the GT4 right?? so i set him straight... and he ducks off to grab the book... then opens the flicks to the right page, asks me what the capacity is, then tells me there isn't a part number for it... so i tell him that i'd just spoken to someone who said there's 3 different ones for it... so with out hesitating i grab the book and and find where he was looking at, only to find:

    1G 2000cc 6cyl
    .............DOHC 82-91 T865
    .............SOHC 82-91 Txxx
    1G 2000cc 6cyl
    .............DOHC 87-93 T865

he saw the line that says 1G and that there was no part no beside it and figured it didn't exist...

    SOOOOO

now that we've managed to find it in the book it's just a case of figuring which of the 3 it is so i suggest that he measure it for length... so off he goes and grabs the verniers... and checks the width... even though the book said 25.4 for all 3... so i tell him he'll need to check the LENGTH... and he's like... ahh... i can't do that... so i grabed the book back, only this time to spot that the only difference between the 3 was that one was the SOHC, and the others were DOHC... and that the DOHC's had the same part number... (previously i'd only looked at the book to see if there was anything there...) so... off he goes to check the part number in the computer... then comes back to say... "nah... nothing there... will have to order one in...."

i just gave him that look... and said... yeeesss.... can you get one in... so he trots off to the phone, mashes the pad, talks for a few secs, then comes back to say... nup... they don't have one... will have to get it from Gates.... NO SHIT... can you get one from gates?????? to which he replied... yeah... but it'll take a few days... won't have it before the weekend.. go i just got jack of it, and walked out...

on the weekend, walked into Aussie Auto down the road, to buy a few things, and figured i'd ask them if they had it too, suprised to find they had 2 in stock... $65 thank you...

    [/EXCESSIVELY LONG RANT]

EDIT: just spotted 88 Supra works at repco too... lol... i hope your not as brain dead as the idiots at my local Repco...

So I am in the process of adjusting the valve lash, I went to toyota the other day with the VIN number from my mums 1996 corolla with a 4AFE and the matching shims are much larger OD.

Has anyone ACTUALLY ordered 1G shims from Toyota with a non 1G part number that worked?
