search...all have been covered before.
After a few years away from rallying(family house's etc) I've bought back
My old Ta23 celica.I have enough spares for a few cars and a spare Ra23 rolling shell.
The question is,With which engine will i re- power the old girl with.Options are,(would like over 200rwkw).
1. Inject & turbo a 2t/3t eng.(got 2 of each & numerous g'boxes)
2.4age turbo'd.
3.3sgte.
4.1Jz.
The car is 3rd car and will only be used weekends etc.If $$$ avail maybe a Dutton/Hill climb will be tried.(its a toy after all).
Any advice from people who have been there would be great.
Cheers Ian.

Got good condition 23/28 bonnet hinges? pm me
Yes I know,Played the search game for a few weeks now and know all will fit requirements,Maybe i should have asked" What pitfalls, ease of instalment, affect onOriginally Posted by kugzs

it before.
What kind of power have poeple got from a Turbo&injected 2t/3t single cam?
Ian.
4a wont have enough torque, 3s will be insanely expensive, 1j will be hard and a single cam is just stupid
go the tried and tested route and go 1g
for single cam t-series engine power, try http://www.toyota3tc.com/forum/index.php
speak to bigworm re 4AGTE
speak to craigd and 3SGTE TA22 re 3SGTE
plenty of people looking into 1jz at the moment.

id just go overbored 3t + turbo
any reason why you need 200kw for rallying?

any reason why you need 200kw for rallying?[/QUOTE]
As much fun as would be(200kw on dirt), i wont be rallying this anymore,it will be a tarmac car only.
I was thinking of the 2t/3t turbo as i have more than enough parts and 1/2 the fun
of this toy is the building(or numb time) of it.
Ian.
Here are some specs on a 3tgte that i owned. Was making around 200rwkw.
Built by Yellorolla (the 3tgte expert around here)
Fully balanced
87mm Wiseco ceramic coated forged pistons w/floating pins
Bronze guided little ends
ARP rod bolts
NDC bearings throughout
JMR head stud kit
O ringed cylinder head
Copper head gasket
JMR intake plenum with RB30E 53mm throttle body
Mazda 620cc injectors
Custom exhaust manifold
CT26 turbo
Coil packs and ignitors (M&W)
JMR Crank trigger disc and CAS mounting bracket
Wolf 3D ver 3

id be going 3s or 3t myself. 6cyls would put too much weight over the front wheels, and 4ag's wont have as much torque

4agte= a decent turbo on a later map sensed stock engine will get you the power you are chasing but wont have alot of torque off boost.
3sgte= a little bit heavier and harder to convert but with a gen3 engine and a gt2860 or 2871 you will have plenty of off boost punch as well as a good power figure.
having done a rwd 3sgte b4 i can tell you it will make the others look slow by comparison but it wont be a cheap exercise to do it properly. 240rwkw is easy on a stock bottom end despite the rumours that say otherwise.

Better off building a good car and being down on power, will be more fun, safer and faster, if you want to fry tyres, get a 302 and shoe horn it in,
Im not to worried about brakes & suspension as yet, as i worked in that industryOriginally Posted by merc-blue
for years(12) and did a fair bit of it due to the rallying. But i like the way you think.
Will consider 1G into Plan.Dont need to fry tyres,More like i'm trying to build
a complete package(arent we all).
Ta , Ian
Then probably a good Idea to do all of the Suspension/brakes etc first then see what the bank balance lets you put in for an engine.
The 1G is by far the best bang for buck. the 3S probably the best balance/performance.
There is a 1G-GZE currently for sale that is a straight bolt in and is a bargain option.

Beige.... The new Black!!!
I hate to say it, but an SR20DET is a logical option especially with their relatively cheap purchase price and already rwd fashion, this is also a tried and tested route done many times by mr roadrunner.

OI! shutup with that blasphemy.![]()
yes ive done it on a few occasions but its not something id do with a classic celica if i owned it, id go 3s
and just to make sure everyone understands i didnt tell the customers to do it, they had already purchased the engines b4 meeting me.
