MA61 Mystery Bulbs (Digital Dash)

Hi,

I've pulled apart my dash, and I've found a few bulbs hidden behind the cover.



The ones on the sides look like backlights, and they don't interest me anywhere near as much as the three at the top! Have I discovered shift lights? The strange thing is that they're all blocked off by the cover, even though there is a very distinct prism of plastic at the top of the dash.





I've plugged it back in again without the cover, but none of them work, I tried redlining it as well. Hopefully they're just dead, so I'll be heading to Repco tomorrow and grabbing some new ones.

I've done a lot of searching, and I've only been able to rule out the seatbelt warning light, because that seems to only be a USDM feature, and the warning light is next to the door light:


What confuses things more is the analogue dash doesn't seem to use the same surround, so that kind of rules out the side bulbs as backlights..

They are for the backlight I reckon.

Have a look at the clear plastic section that acts as a light pipe, I believe it picks up the light from these bulbs in the same fashion as the side ones...

Spend a bit of time tracing the circuit also can confirm this (as well as putting it in the car without the face on and turing the lights on!)?

Ah why I didn't think of turning the lights on before!



They dim with the dimmer knob which is kinda cool, they come on with the foglights While it's kinda cool that I've gotten them to work, I'm very disappointed they weren't shift lights

Haha, hidden shift lights wouldve been alright.

So they come on just with the fog lights did you say? Or with normal headlights too?

Yeah, normal headlights too, I feel kinda stupid now, they're just the backlights that light up the numbers next to the tacho and stuff

Dont feel too bad, it still looks cool, like from the BTTF DeLorean
