Yes the engine has been hot on a few occasions, but I don't know how hot thanks to the ghey digital temperature gauge on the MA61. It gives you the option of cold, normal, hot and really hot.![]()
The nut was a real bastard to get off when I replaced my harmonic balancer. I wound up drilling a hole in the side of it and wedging a bar between the chassis and the balancer. It still needed to be in gear and a 3' breaker bar to get it undone. The puller I made myself and the balancer came off easy as.
Norbie, Could the cover have been heated and swollen enough to touch the balancer??

The bolt hard to get out? Mine was piss easy! Then again that 'may' just have something to do with the fact that I was using my mates 780nm rattle gun
This thread is quite odd, I've pulled down a few J's now, and never have I come across this dilemma.
The bolt was ridiculously hard to get out the first time (5-6 years ago) but quite easy this time. Methinks that was part of the problem.![]()

Never seen that Norbie, and when I had my balancer replaced all the rubber had perishedweird, certainly a 2J trait is the old cranky pulley.
I had a cover that looked like that in my 1JZ. The problem was simple: Crankwalk. Worn thrust washers + 3200lb pressure plate = destroyed bottom end.
It was quite impressive having my rear-end lock up on the highway when the motor seized.
Maybe you should check the endplay in your crank just to make sure.![]()
That's a decent suggestion...Originally Posted by annoyingrob
And didn't you put the clutch plate in backwards once? I recall the chap with the bundera with the 1jz shagged an engine when he put the clutch plate in backwards and tried to use the clutch...?

I've never had a ridiculous clutch so crankwalk seems unlikely. It's something to keep in mind I guess?
