voltage spikes?Originally Posted by Cruiser97_80
please supply evidence as to how this may happen?
the only way i can see it happening is if the regulator on the alternator was fucked and it overcharged, but then, thats not the issue he's having, is it?
if you find some SOLID evidence, ill go back and undo everytime i have done it, and it hasnt caused any issues at all, just so i dont blow anything up.

Dunno how much you want to rely on the resistance. Coils I replaced tested 0.9ohms. Coils I got from cvap tested 0.9ohms.
Can anyone back up the shop manual?
Edit - was from cvap and tested 0.9ohms.

WTF... from 0.3-0.5 to 9ohms that's abit of a crazy hike in numbers!

If an alternator is putting out a significant amount of output (to the battery), and that load (battery) is removed, the voltage will spike.Originally Posted by EldarO
This is a basic electrical concept.
Yes there is a regulator, but it cannot react quickly enough to prevent the spike.
Disconnecting a battery terminal in this manner is poor practice.
Update.......
I got a battery check today, results came out "good" so it wasn't a battery problem.
Then I thought what the hell I'll get some new spark plugs, can't hurt. So I went and bought some new double platium plugs. Installed them, started up the car and it idled perfectly. Went for a drive and all is good, ran and boosted perfectly in every gear. Not once did it or has it missed a beat since. So problem fixed!![]()
