    Default Gearbox question

    Hi all...
just had my 1ggte ra23 project running in the shed, in neutral, there is no clutch lines yet so no clutch slaves or anything to actually drive the car and engage gears etc.. when all of a sudden it seems to have "slipped" into a gear and stalls... shifter still in neutral position though.. try to start again and it's as though it's in gear..
ok pulled the box out, and found some little bearing thing that goes on the end of the input shaft inside the flywheel?? this was broken and falling apart in the bell housing.. have never noticed one of these before when i've had these set ups
now another thing I'd like to know is, cos I have the gear box out now, if i turn the input shaft, what should the tailshaft yoke do?? should it turn too or be stationary??

that bearing is a spiggot bearing but that ain't your main problem.
the output should have a little drag but you should be able to turn the input and hold the output shaft(not turn)
most common prognosis would be the input to mainshaft support bearing. if this has seized then your input will be locked to your output shaft(1:1 ratio)

yeah, just spoke to my dad and he said the same thing about turning the shafts, it should stop when I apply some resistance, haven't had a chance to try this yet though.

how do I identify my gbox, as in which model?

One presumes it would be a W gearbox. Whenever you put a gearbox/clutch/etc. in, you ALWAYS make sure everything is in good order. Replace both bearings, and be sure the gearbox is all happy. Spigot bearings cost $2!
