    Default AW11 gearbox problem

    Hey guys,

I am currently re-fitting the engine and gearbox into the car. I bought the car with the two seperate. I have the engine and gearbox in and am fitting the rear suspension now. I have the rear strut bolted in and am trying to fit the drive shaft into the gearbox. It only goes on about 2 inch but wont go the extra bit in. Looking at the non supercharged manual it says you need to seperate the drive shaft and then hammer the spline into the gearbox. Is it the same for the supercharge box? Also do i need to seperate it, or can i hammer it in while still attached to the shaft.

    Cheers

Is the circlip damaged on the driveshaft?

If you have the driveshafts which have the 6 allen key bolts I would be hestitant to remove them and then push the spline as there is no end cap and could end having to mount all the bearings again on the shaft.

If you can put the spline in to the gearbox and hub and use the hub to gently apply pressure and as zachhhh said use some lubricant.

Forgive me if i read wrong, but i understand your trying to get the driveshaft (with cv's) into the gearbox, Do the spines on these driveshafts have circlips? (that metal ring)

If you get some grease so try and get the circlip to stay centered instead of drooping to the bottom from gravity makes a big difference when getting the driveshaft to pop in.

Also if you push against the driveshaft so it's solid against the gearbox then give it a sharp wack on the wheel hub end it should pop in, if not pull it out, rotate put it back in and repeat. Also if your goingto wack the end of the driveshaft stick the wheel nut onit so you wack the nut and not the threaded shaft. (they will go out of shape in no time, and make it impossible to put the big wheel nut back on.

they got a little snap ring, you just gotta give the driveshaft a little jolt and they normaly go in. if you have to give it a 'whack' use a peice of wood on the end of the driveshaft and then whack it. make sure it feels like the splines is lined up though.
pulling them apart at the allen keys can be tricky, first time i did it i lost the balls out of the cage and spent hours curseing before i got it right again. last time i pulled the driveshaft apart i was much more careful and used the half moons and zip ties to keep it all together.
if i could get bloody image shack to work i would post some pics.
