I want this to become a thread that is general to all models - helping with the background knowledge and skills required to successfully undertake conversions (engine, electrical and driveline). Please no smart-arsed posts, learning has no shame and we all start somewhere. Please post up any threads/references you feel should be added to this first post.
(mods, please delete this if this has been done before, numerous searches have produced nothing for me)
Electrical
Multimeter's, what they are and how to use them
Toyota wiring diagram symbols & electrical term glossary
Suspension
Common suspension terms and trouble-shooting common problems
Body
Welding Information Centre - different types of welding, welding safety, etc
Miscellaneous
Simple Digital Systems Tech - various fabrication issues and answers FAQ

buy manual and wiring diagrams for donor and recipient car.
buy angle grinder and find welder...
that will do 95% of conversions
seriously....
not trying to be funny.. this is how it has been done since cars were invented, and the basics are no different now.
if you mean basics as in "how to change oil" or "what torque for certain bolts" and such.. that is also in car manuals...

AU$TRALIA... come and stay and PAY and PAY!!! The moral high horse of the world!
cost of conversion = cost of halfcut + tank of petrol
