Striped bolt

Today i was in the process of changing my exaust manifold and
i managed to strip a 14mm bolt head.

There is limited space and i can only really fit a ring spanner or a regular
socket into place so vice grips are out of the question.

Was wondering what most ppl do in this situation ? (after throwing tantrum)

find an old useless socket and weld it on to the head.

MR22zz i was thinking that might be an option but i was thinking maybe loctite or a
really strong glue might be worth a shot first.

Veep, its not completely rounded, it still has some purchase just not enough, keeps sliping off on an angle.

Use a single hex socket instead of a normal 12-point socket. They are good insurance if used first time round on tight bolts, but if they are not completely round, you can often still get damaged bolt undone (with a good quality socket.)

TC1600 yeah infact most of my sockets are just crap quality 6 point sockets,
had to pick them up from cashworks, of corse i have one 12 point which is the 14mm
that i was using.

Has anyone tried the loctite or some kind of adhesive ? I could make good use of my shitty 6 point socket.

Loctite won't be strong enough, but some people use valve grinding paste, it's an abrasive so will help the socket to grip. If you can get in there you could try welding an old crappy socket, as has been previously suggested. Or hammer a 13mm socket on, it will make its own shape (as has been done for customers who have lost their lock nut sockets for their wheels)

i second smashing a 13mm socket on there use the single hex tho a multi hex i.e. 12 point will just shread it again

mm ok, 4agte by the single hex do you mean 16 or 6 point?.

Either way i think i will have difficulty getting enough power into the hammer swing with such limited room, out of all 5 bolts this one is in the most restricted spot + could the hammering damage the head or threads in anyway?

Looks like i might have to get someone to weld it

go buy a cheap dremil ($29) and make some new edges, have another crack with your tools..

Failing that - as above, just weld on a socket...

hammering a smaller socket onto the head of the bolt will fark the head but who cares its rounded anyways threads will be fine

i would say from what you said best bet is for someone to tack an old socket or something to it so you can turn it.

gassless migs are cheap these days and are usefull for little welding jobs might be something worth investing in ive used mine for welding up all sorts of things
