    Default how to flare guards?

as in the title, just wondering if anyone knows the procedure one would take to hand flare guards. (to get the super jun look/fit big wheels)
im not looking for a hit it with a hammer answer! and i already know how to roll/lip.

i was thinking along the lines of using a guard rolling tool but higher up on the actual stock 'flares' maybe? (from an ae86 side of things).

to have flares at same angle, but start higher up requires a significant amount of metal stretching.. cos when the metal sits further out, it has to be longer? (hard to explain.. tired...)

to do the widebody thing, you need to use either a new metal skin or glass it.
new metal skin is not so easy, but not so hard.. just make template out of cardboard (assuming most of the flare is flat), then hack up old guard and make fit.. getting it to look right could be a bitch tho.

for front guards, new FRP ones might give better result, but dubious about legality.
for rear, you actually need to remove original lip completely, and kinda do an anti minitub.. i think doinf rear in metal will be better for body strength...

    lol
    im an engineer...not an idiot

thanks for the help, but i dont want to go too crazy wide body or anything. im looking for more of the 'hand rolled jap look' you see in some drift vids. would a rolling tool be a good place to start? or is this more of a hammer, hammer, bog, paint kind of thing?

My mate has a old 75 lancer with a IRS rear end under it now and no matter what the wheels are going to rub badly.

He has talked to some panel shops and there is lots of methods..

Cutting a slit up the guard, pulling it out as 2 halves so to speak, and filling the gap in with new metal.

In his case tomorrow its heading down to the stop and they are going to try and use the device that straightens car bodys to pull the guards out as much as they can before it starts to crease the panels on the body. Be interesting to see how it goes.

They are confident it'll come out 10 - 20mm before things start getting out of shape too much.

nah no need for an apology mate, was only joking around.
something more along the lines of this:

ovbioulsy you can't do this to a sprinter, but hopefully the general idea can be formed from this.
this job was done with a rolling tool (same one to lip guards) but remember that the nissans have straight arches over the wheel, whereas the ae86 has small flares.

What a shame. I just swapped those front guards for standard ones!

I just used a guard roller, a hammer and dolly... and a lot of patience

    Then bog

Looks like it would taken a few kilos too

ive heard of cutting a few slits in the guard itself, then pulling out each individual bit and welding in new metal, same thing that "turbora28" said, but more cuts.

Well the Lancer flaring when suprisingly well! They first used some hydrolic pulled and then tidied it all up with a hammer.

Currently no body filler on them and they are pretty smooth actually. Came out well over an inch.

    Cheers
