sw20 AGX shock help

just a few things I need to know about them (KYB-765015)

from what ive found they are very similar in measurements as the HTS102's (tokico)

I just need to know about differences in the threads for the top hats, anyone have this info handy?

Do you mean the gland nut? And is this for installation into an AE86 or similar?

If so, the gland nuts that come with KYB AGX SW20 shocks have the wrong thread for AE86/xA6x etc. You can reuse your exisiting gland nuts, or get hold of some KYB ones to suit your car (this option guarantees that the damper will be centred)

its actually for a mx83...

set of coilovers, last had a pair of HTS102F's in them, (cut n shut JIC's so I have the camber tops).

Seeing as the HTS are very hard to come by at a reasonable price, the sw20 ones should do.

I'm actually meaning the top hat nut/thread, that screws the cambertops onto the shock

Cambertops don't screw into shocks. The shock shaft is held captive within the spherical bearing in the camber top by means of the top nut, and is free to rotate.

Assuming that HTS102s are short-stroke & body AE86 shocks (I'm not entirely sure), perhaps you mean to ask whether HTS102s and SW20 dampers have the same thread diameter? I believe they do. Do they have the same stroke and/or body lenght? Not sure. Do they have the same distance between shock shaft flats and thread? Not sure. Does this matter? Depends how your current top hats are located.

Note that there are front AND rear SW20 shocks to choose from (rears are shorter). If the HTS102s have a shorter body, you may need to fab a spacer. If they a re longer, they may not fit in your current setup unless you are already using a spacer you can reduce.

yep thats what i meant, just didnt word it right

and yep the thread is what i needed to know

all other dimensions of the rear sw20 shocks appear to be correctly sized for a HTS replacement, so i wont need a replacement, as the strut tube was modified specifically for the HTS cartridge.

OK. I'm using rear SW20 AGX shocks in my coilovers (shortened RA65 struts), and I like them.

Yeah it was the choice of paying 350 for a set of shocks, or closer to 600 for a pair that will do the same job

from what i hear the AGX's are a good shock, with any luck they will be stiff enough to keep the 12kg/mm springs at bay, the HTS's were real good for it before, just hoping to get a similar thing.

Ok, so I bit the bullet and got the AGX's for my suspension, taking a stab and hoping they hold...

And I can safely say, yes they do, definatly stiff, and feel about the same as the hts's with maybe just a bit less response to oscillations...

In saying this, I'm still happy with the fact they CAN hold 12kg/mm springs captive and no bouncing around.

So this is confirming where someone had mentioned them hearing of such high springs being used...
