Default 7m, fuel smell, injector malfunction/fuel rail?

gday, been tinkering on my 7m mx73 adjusting the throttle cable so there is less slack on the pedal and to get WOT (wasnt adjusted previously) and as i was around that area noticed the slight smell of fuel.
I had a futher investigation and it I cant see anything out of the ordinary.
So I turned on the car and give it a few revs then let it idle and have a sniff. Theres definately a slight smell there.

Question - could the injector be malfunctioning and dumping in fuel or maybe the fuel rail have a slight leak?
I dont think its dumping in fuel/malfunctioning because theres no black smoke out the back to indicate running rich so my thinking is the fuel rail.

    Any thoughts?

Injector O-rings? can you see any fuel pooling on the runners below the rail? If they twist when you put them in they eventually leak. Use vasoline when fitting them if you need to replace any

    injector orings are fine :S

when i have the car on ignition, i can hear the fuel pump and also hear clearly the fuel rail. my previous 7m did not have this noise at the fuel rail, should i be concerned?

I could always hear fuel moving through mine as well. The big ugly bulb thing with the plastic cap where the fuel enters the rail is also a common leak area. It's on top of the banjo fitting closest to the firewall

that is where the smell is concertrated, ill check that in the morning. is it a matter of regasketing "bulb" with some sealant? or is a replacement unit better?

I just replaced the last one that was leaking on my car. It's a sealed unit with a little philips head screw in the top. Not sure exactly what it's for actually

If your O-rings are ok, check your fuel reg.
Might even be the fuel hose to the start-up injector or even the hose supplying the fuel rail.

What about the fuel filter fittings, and while you are there replace that old fuel filter

Fuel filter is in the rear on top of the diff area so wouldnt be the smell from the fuel filter, also to mention was never meant to be replaced

This is the leading culprit atm, I'll be inspecting all lines and associated connectors this weekend in detail!

    Thanks for the help guys

Cressida fuel filter is on the side of the block below the intake. It can be replaced, about $50 from Toyota.

that is a fuel pressure regulator from what i have been told.. its meant to smooth out pulses from the fuel pump,
if you are going to replace the copper o rings keep in mind that the top ring on this fitting will have little cut outs for the fuel to flow around the outside of the reg.
on my 3s setup i had to remove it as it fouled on my intake... no noticeable effects at this point,
