Quick question, im making the chalkboard a manual today. But i wanna make sure, is it okay to rattle gun the flywheel bolts on? Or should they be done to a certain tourqe?
Cheers,
Jase

Its a 4ac. But cheers for leeroy clearing that up...
When going from auto to manual, there are two platelets on either side of the auto flywheel. Do you keep these when putting a manual box in or remove them?

1. Make sure all the threads are very clean.
2. Put the flywheel on with all the bolts, hand-tight.
3. One-by one, remove a single bolt and put some synthetic oil under the head of the bolt. If you don't lubricate the bolt head like that, you will be under-torqing the bolt by up to 30% or so. When that's done, put a drop of Locktite on the thread and replace the bolt with a bit of torque to make sure it's tight.
4. Go around the flywheel one bolt at a time to make sure they all end up like that.
5. Do the final torques on all the bolts in the butterfly pattern.
The reason for putting the bolts in dry first is so that the flywheel is up tight on the back of the crank. It's possible to get some Locktite in between the crank and flywheel, and after a while it'll crank-up and so have the bolts go loose. That's bad.
So you make sure all the bolts are tight-ish first, then added the Locktite to the bolts one-one.

old imput shaft if you have one lying arround
Yep nice write up indeed.Originally Posted by Billzilla
A good point to note is if you torque the bolts without using oil on the inside of the head, you should torque to the required setting and then go a further 70-100deg. This should give you the required torque also.
A clutch aligning tool of courseOriginally Posted by Smokey228
Think supercheap and repco sell these, theyre a little bit nasty but get the job done. 90% plastic, prob $20 or so. A broomstick might work also.
Ive also used my hands a few times but that gets hard when your under the car.
