Default Complete Coolant Flush & Part numbers

    Hi there

Did a search but couldnt find exactly what i was looking for.

Have a 1ggte gz20 soarer, i want to do a service on it eg sparks, oil, filter and i want to put in new coolant, it currently has in it an aftermarket coolant but i have plenty of toyota stuff at my disposal so i want to put that in.

my question is how do i completely flush the system, read a few different methods like using coolant flush etc and was just wondering what everyone else has found works for them

found this http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/cooling/coolant.html is there anything like this on the gz20??

    cheers

I used a coolent flush that i picked up from local auto store did what the directions said and it worked fine mate. it takes a while cos you have to turn heater on and stuff to clear the system etc. its fairly cheap to so hope that helps.

Best way I found is to use a power flusher. You connect a hose and air line to it. Connect it to a hose, take your thermostat out, open heater tap. It pushes water through the system, and then you can give it a blast with air to dislodge any crap. Better to send it through in the opposite direction to normal coolant flow. IE Back-flushing.

If you can't get access to one of these, Tectaloy Mukowt or equivalent does alright. Drain coolant, remove thermostat, fill it with water and add Mukowt and run for half hour or so. Drain, flush with plenty of clean water then add coolant of choice.

cheers for those, yeah didnt even realise you could buy a flusher till now might try that one, not in the mood for taking out thermostat at this point looking for an easier option that that, keep that in mind next time something major goes wrong and needs dismantling anyway, havent even looked at the 1g properly since i got it looks like an original sealed motor wouldnt even know where the thermostat is at the moment.

so anyone know about any engine drain plugs?

The machine gav is talking about is pretty damn good if you ave access to it. FWIW alot of the ultra tune stores have these and its about $90 to do a complete flush including new coolant.--- You could get it cheaper if you supply the coolant.

Golden Grove U tune has one as i used to work there and often pop in to use it.

Other than that dropping the top & bottom hose and pulling the thermostat out and giving it a good blast with the hose will work pretty well too.
Sometimes this way just isnt possible esp If you have a car like mine with lots of polished alloy one of those coolant machines are invaluable as they allow you to flush the cooling system without spilling a drop of coolant and tarnishing all your hard work.

    PULL A HEATER HOSE OFF!!!!!!!!!!.....

    make sure heater is on,

start the car and run it, while you have the hose in the radiator turned on, flushing fresh water through the system, leaking out of the heater hose..... run the car till the water is CLEAR, pull the hose out, turn the car off,

slip the lower radiator hose off/ take out radiator COCK plug (;p) drain it,

reassemble, top up with toyota red, while the car is running, make sure thermo fan kick in and out, (if you have converted it to thermo,)

take it for a drive, keeping an eye on the temp gauage, when you back, remove the radiator cap while the car is running (use a RAG>>> IT WILL BE HOT<<<) and top up the coolant as needed,

also recomend to check the coolant level the next morning before you go driving again,

    blake
