Default 1jz vs 2jz harmonic balancer

Can anyone confirm if there is a difference between a 1jzgte/2jzgte harmonic balancer.

i remember someone posting before that they were different weights
also on the ross balancer site it lists them as different part numbers

    http://www.rosstuffbond.com.au/pages/metal_jacket.html

apparantly they all bolt up though 2jzgte,2jzge,1jzgte

Yeh they bolt up but i'm curious to know if the timing marks are in the same place. My 2jz is reading 0 degrees on the timing on my microtech but on the harmonic balancer it's at 20 degree's. Only thing i can think off is that i put a 1jz harmonic on it, not the 2jz one.

Is the keyway damaged causing the misalignment
Also could be the timing belt pulley trigger wheel could be loose

read this thread could be this

    This thread springs to mind

    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...t=crank+pulley

And I'll just post exactly what I did last time here again

    Also EPC says 2JZ-GTE = 2JZ-GE = 1JZ-GE BUT DOES NOT EQUAL 1JZ-GTE

1JZ-GTE is slightly different, I suspect it would interchange without drama tho...

I took some pics to show that they are indeed slightly different! The 2JZ-GTE pulley I have has a slightly tapered front-most face...

The 2JZ-GTE pulley weighs about ~300g

The 1JZ-GTE pulley weighs about ~400g

(weights measured with dodge household scales so are not to accurate).

As cambelt1 points out the weight difference is due to the 2JZ-GTE pulley having an alloy center as opposed to the 1JZ-GTEs cast center

    haha, nice Wilbo

Was your microtech synced before? Did you just change balancers?

You know you just change the settings in the microtech right?

Yeh i just changed the harmonic balancer to a 1jzgte one, my tuner reckons there nothing else he can change on the microtech to solve the problem. I'm gonna take the harmonic off on saturday and have a look at the crank gear.

If you're questioning the timing marks on your engine, then pull out the spark plug and check it...

My Auto1 dealer said that their supplier (can't remember who it was) had different part numbers for the 1JZ-GTE & 2JZ-GTE but when they called the supplier they were told that they were the same.

i have sold a few new ones and I'll soon have re-bonded 2JZ ones available. I've found the 2JZ & 2JZGTE are identical.

The issue that I've found seems to be that the rubber isolated section that is bonded to the center rotates, I don't think the alloy part flogs out? I haven't heard of it, doesn't mean it doesn't happen tho!

I just checked, and yes the timing mark is in the same place on the 1jz-gte and 2jz-gte ones I have (pics above).
