Default 4a-ge smallport to 20v air cond question

    Hi,

For those of you who replaced your 16v smallport in your ae93sx's what did you do to retain your air conditioning ? Did you use the 16v's compressor? or the 20v ?

The reason I ask is I am having a hard time determining what compressor I have as I purchased the car with the conversion already done.

The broken compressor I have in my car has a pulley diameter measures 112.5mm and it has a 6 pin connector.

I have tried a a/c compressor from another 20v silvertop and it had 2 connectors and a pulley diameter of ~ 145mm.

I tried to buy an a/c compressor off someone on the internet, he had a/c compressors from both a bigport and a smallport.
And he said the pulley diameter was ~145mm.

So what compressor should I be looking for ?

    Thanks in advance.

How did you measure the pulley diameter?

I have a smallport A/C compressor here. The pulley diameter measures at ~125mm, measured with a rule across the front of the pulley, outside edge to outside edge. It has a grey 6 pin plug but only has 4 wires in the plug.

Hope this helps to ID your compressor.

I used the 20V comp on the 20V engine. And I paid a shitload to reroute the A/C lines and for the the autospark monkey to fark up the wiring.

Yeap, outside edge to outside edge.
    Sounds alot like my compressor.

Could it be that different compressors were available with the smallport ?

I see that you have an ae90 according to your signature. Does that mean you had a 6a-fc before? I think the a/c lines locations are the same between the smallport and silvertop compressor.

Has anyone else used the 20v compressor in their conversion ?
Just to work out my options.

I always use the pump that comes with the engine. Not that saying that really helps you much here, as I'd imagine it'd be quite easy to have bolted on the original pump in your case...

You can use the compressor from a 20V engine on a smallport, but you have to "rejig" the wiring a bit.

I spent an entire night working on Finney's car trying to figure out how all the aircon wiring worked.... it became pretty obvious to me after I had an epiphony sitting on the toilet.

Basically, have a look at where the wires go on the smallport compressor and the 20V compressor. You'll see that the 20V has an extra pressure switch, which the smallport doesnt have. This pressure switch can be ignored, and not hooked up.

YOu just want to wire up the 20V compressor to work the exact same way as the smallport compressor. I'll dig up my notes tonight and post some pics. Send me a PM to remind me pls, because i forget stuff!!

Just wondering if anyone else has bolted another a/c compressor next to a smallport ??

I am curious for my replacement options...

    Cheers.
