John, T-K tests are worth 3 fifths of fuckall, mine tested negative on 3 different testers.

SL, i know which ways a headgasket can blow, and, ive asked question pertaining to that, (is he losing any coolant etc.)

    specifically this:

sitting in traffic? on the highway? temp drops when you rev it? etc.
classic symptom of the coolant being low as a result of it getting pushed out of the overflow.

mine showed no bubbles, negative on the T-K test, passed both compression and leakdown tests, yet still couldnt run 20 minutes without overheating, no matter what the condition.

i had the radiator REPLACED, thermostat replaced, every rubber hose and seal on the motor (from cam covers to sump) this cost me in excess of $5k and it still overheated, no mechanic i took it to knew what was going on, except one, Matty "wildsupra".

i took the head off and the gasket was leaking (not blown, leaking) in 11 places.

i apologise for the neg rep, i get what ya mean and shouldnt have taken it too seriously.

you replaced every seal in your engine because your engine was pushing coolant out the overflow? - ever get the feeling the mechanic saw you coming?

mechanic was dads mate, royally fucked us over and i bag him out every chance i get for voiding my "unconditional" warranty.

I replaced everything on the motor after i failed to get anywhere with him.

i was losing coolant and heating up, and i didnt know the reason why, so i went through and replaced everything i had the capacity to, funnily enough, the last thing was at fault, headgasket.

stupid me, since then, learned from mistakes, havent had to deal with dickhead since

ok im a little worried now after reading eldaro s head gasket issues,i cooked the thermostat and it seems to open up ok about 6-8 mm if thats normal?
the main problem is that it spits alot of the coolant up throught the overflow bottle and because the engine is in a 180sx with standard nissan gauges is doesnt register as being that hot.
im looking for a nissan temp sensor i can put in place of the toyota one.
thermo fans are controlled by the microtech and are coming on fine.

also i checked the engine oil and it seems to be the right colour,no milk.
theres a litle bit of brown/rusty looking paste in the radiator cap though, not much just a really thin film

eldaro do you know why your engine was overheating with your leaking head gasket, was it because the engine gas was blowing all your coolant out?
and was the gasket leaking because the head was warped ,is this comon with 1j's?

head warpage usually only occours if the engine has been cooked.. or if its a ford 6.

    ahahahah, top call

at firstmine was overheating cause it pushed all the coolant out then started heating up, but i could at least deal with that, the reason i did the conversion was that it did actually get very bad, heating up even when full of water.

    is actually Tee-Kay test.

all they do is check your coolant for exhaust gases.

its a little pump thing (looks like a tube) that they stick into the top of your radiator, that seals it off, then they pump the air from your radiator through the liquid inside the pump.

on the ones ive seen, the fluid is blue normally, but, if there are exhaust gases in your coolant (carbon monoxide from memory?) it turns yellow.

once the test is finished, pumping normal air through it changes it back to blue.
