Paint chip for old cars

Hello, just wondering if anyone has any paint chips from the mid 1960s for the 40 series Crowns?

I'm just about to start respraying the old girl but don't want to do it in the original white - looking for a green. I know there were something like 3 to 5 different greens but I'll be buggered if I can remember all of their names. I know there was a spring green and tasman turquoise, but absolutely no idea regarding any of the others.

I have done the standard ring around of the paint suppliers. I have also tried Toyota - head office say try customer relations and they say "NFI!".

I remember there was a color chip posted for the 50 series on Classicrown eons ago - I can't even find that!

Also does anyone know if the 40 series ever came out with a colored body and white roof?

Where to go for info???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tried a paint shop thats been around for donkeys years?

Wouldn't surprise me if they had old catalogues lying around.

Yes, that would be your best bet. A mate recently enquired about 60's Mini colours at a paint shop in Geelong. They dragged out a dusty book of Leyland and BMC colour swatches and gave it to him!

most auto paint shops should be able to help you out. worse case senario one will be able to colour match for you

would be safer and more predictable to match a paint sample from a small peice that's been out of the sun/UV/heat/petrol.

Printed paint and ink charts will change over time as the pigments, paint-base, paper and inks all oxidise and react with the (quite toxic) atmosphere of a paint shop. Even just regular handling with greasy hands combined with regularl opening of the book into varying temps and humidity will start the paint to fail/fade.

fwiw, ink-colour charts (in the publishing industry) have a life of 1-2 years before colours start to change. They usually get used for 5 times that but the colour specs will differ in varying degrees from the samples.

It's a sad fact that toyota have abandoned anything older than a 1990 model, as have most paint shops, but there are still a few old school guys out there who've bothered to keep there old swatches.

Also, Can I bring to your attention that due to your changed avatar in the old forums, a couple of the posts in the members rides section have taken on a renewed meaning... Brought a smile to my face.

Absolutely, except my car is white and I want to make it green, so I have no sample to work with.

Absolutely. I have a "color memory" seeing these old doozies years ago but can't for the life of me remember their names and certainly no idea what the code is. If I could see the color no matter how faded or discolored it is, then I have the name and code. I found an old book today at a local panel shop that listed many of the colors and codes from that era but, of course, no color swatches.
I made a few phone calls this arvo and will be driving over town tomorrow to see what I can find.

That's right! I can't believe it's the swatch I was looking for and it's on my site! Some of those 50 series colors carried thru from the 40 series (like the horizontal blue, volcanic beige and spring green).

GT, is there any chance you're thinking of including a vinyl roof and a woodgrain strip as part of the paint process? These additions would excite me greatly...

No vinyl roof or woodgrain on this one Shinny.

Although I just bought another two wagons - the guy started doing one up rat stylez so it's dumped on its guts and runs whitewalls. I need some moon discs to finish it off. The other is an original Custom
