    Default 4E-FTE into a mini???

I am looking @ putting a new motor in a mini shell i have lying around.
Was wondering it i could get any more info on this motor. All i know is its a Toyota Starlet Turbo motor. Might be looking at running it without the turbo. So what power does it have with and without the turbo. Dimesions.

My other choices of engine are the Honda Civic motor, or Swift GTI.

check the ozmini forum (if you haven't already) - I'm 90% sure someone's already done the starlet turbo conversion, and can probably offer more help in terms of shoe-horning it into the mini engine bay

I'm pretty sure only the GT engine is alloy so be careful when you look.
It definitely sounds like one of the more practical conversions for a mini.

The honda motor? I'd be assuming you mean the B16A or one of the D-series.
As much as I love Honda's engine technology, I have to say the B and D engines are rather LARGE and surprisingly HEAVY. I dont think they'll fit anywhere near as easily as a 4e will.
Back in the say, when I was younger and even more wildly optimistic, I attempted to put a B16 into something somewhat larger than a mini. It fit... barely. Sadly I was forced to abandon it. I dont think you've got a hope in hell of making it fit in a mini neatly without some serious manufacturing.
The E series motors however are quite small and should fit fairly easily into a mini's engine bay.

We did this conversion a little while ago. You would need to keep the turbo as the engine is a slug without it.

That'd be because of the 8.2:1 compression.

There is a non turbo version of the starlet engine (4EFE) that should be ok if you don't want a tubo.

Of course you really do want boost

    1974 TA22 Celica (2TG bored and stroked)

For the effort you'd be better off working the stock engine then putting the 4efe in. If you were gonna go NA you'd go the Suzuki Swift GTI motor.

the B16A (honda motor) motor conversion is quite common in the UK. And i know so is the swift motor. The B16A is the most powerful of the lot.

ive done afew 4efte into minis

    run hoses to front

this one had a full tubular front frame made up

and ive done a b61a vtec into a mini race car
they said the thing screams the vtec engine was solidly mounted into this mini full tubular front end

if u goto any hill climbs in nsw and see a fluro green mini thats it

Red face Re: 4E-FTE into a mini???

There is at least two guys with 4EFTE conversions into Minis on the go at the moment on the Ausmini forum, and there are two or three already on the road. There was one for sale on eBay earlier this week.

You don't need to put the radiator in the boot if you use a square-nosed Clubman shell, unless you have a front mount intercooler.

AFAIK nobody has finished and legally registered a 4EFTE into a roundnose shell yet.

Wildsupra finished said conversion, but never legally registered it with the new engine.
