Default 1JZ into RA23 more questions

have a couple of quick questions. I am about to purchase a 1JZ with auto to put into my ra23. My question is about the auto behind the 1JZ, now i do believe i will need the cumputer to run the auto, i have a MoTeC which will be doing most of the work. Is there a way around not having to wire up the stock computer, something was mentioned to me tonight from the guy who's going to sell me the motor that I could get a hold of a "stand alone computer" will this run the auto without having to install the stock computer??? Just dont wanna have to have a million wires floating around the engine bay.

Also I have read sheepers thread on how to install this gear, it sais he is using a mid sump, avaliable with this motor is a front or rear sump, im guessing i would need the front sump? does someone know what the mid sump is out of? and im not going rack and pinion steering.

RA23 will want a mid sump, unless you have a TA23 crossmember which is front sump.

MV Automatics will sell you a box which allows you to manually shift the auto so you can get rid of the OEM electronics entirely.

so does that mean i'll have to go back into 1st everytime I stop at a red light? wouldnt mind an auto that does all the work for me, this thing will be driven everyday

Well manual shift implies that yes, you will have to manually select gears.

If you want proper automatic control I don't think there's much you can do except wire up the factory ECU with the Motec hooked up piggyback style. I suppose you could use some old hydraulic auto (people have used TH400's behind JZ engines before) but this isn't a cheap or easy option.

Mr 1jz - im going auto cause the car is already auto as stock, ive always had manual car's and would just love to have a lazy auto and for those long cruises. I have all the gear to swap it over bar a r154 which would be the only option, dont like the idea of the w5x behind something that has huge potential. Im sure that one day the car will get a manual swap, probably the day my probation ends. (and thats a long time from now)

Norbie - damn i was hoping to not wire it all up but thats what im gonna have to do i guess, cheers for the info + rep
