    Default Hilux Axle bearings

Sorry to start this thread guys, but i need an answer asap so i can get my diff in and ready rolling tonight

    taken from some other site***

You have bearings and lil steel ring thingys.

Where do said steel ring thingys go? And how does one affix them?
And also, those circlip things, i have to use my old ones, but as i never took em off, they just wrap around the cut in section on the axle ends near bearings?
Do these two things together assit in keeping the axle in where it belongs than?

    Cheers,
    Jase

P.S. If it helps this is a hilux diff

the sleeves hold the bearing in place, you have to heat it up with an oxy or wotever, then drop it over the axle (with the bearing already in place) and it will shrink on

did you not pull the old bearings out? this is the best way to work out how they fit together

bearing on 1st then the steel ring after. that locks them on. Removing the bearings will require a press. Or i have heard of cutting them off with a grinder.

I got a shop to remove my old bearings and fit a new set. $70 it cost me.

i cut half way through the ring with an angle grinder in 4 places (carefully) then by hitting it with a large cold chisel a lot in the cuts you can get it to expand enough to slide it off

Ive heated them and slid them on.

I have put them on the axles themselves, the bearings are in the cups seperate to the axles.
It seems right like this, but if that sounds wrong let me know...

The way i see it, these will somewhat seal the axle and hold the bearings into place against the circlip looking things. But i dont know. Anyone on here know from experience with the Hilux..?

[quote=Aust162]bearing on 1st then the steel ring after. that locks them on[/qoute]
In this instance this cannot be the case because the bearing must go on before the axles go in. The way the cup faces is toward the diff, so they cant come out once backing plates go on.

I think the way its on now seems right. I hope that it is lol

Nooo, it tells me ive done it wrong

But if that is the case, and these bearings and retainers need to be pressed on, how on earth do you get the axles in and out of the car? Some serious force?

So the only way to get these retainers off is to destroy them than?

You get the axles in and out with serious force. or a slide hammer.

The easiest way to get the retainers off is to destroy them. Although it is possible other ways, like a HUGE 20t press. But ive heard of bending axles before getting the retainers off.

Okay, so ill have to cut em off and get another set.
But it was great fun playing with the blow torch anyway

Anyone got some dimensions or part no's so i can get some without having to geuss and check?
I might also fork out the 130$ and get that dremel kit with all the cool attachments this afternoon too... I think i deserve a new cool toy, last thing i got was a digital measuring thing...

I cut the retainers off, bought myself a dremel so it was easy... And fun

But im still confused. Ive put the new retainers in with the bearings, do i put the circlip looking things in there to? Will it stay in with the retainer and bearing, or when i push the axles in will it slide down into the diff and destroy centres?
    I hate this game

Anyone got a picture of exactly what order these go on in? Do i attach them all, incl backing plate bearing cup etc, before it actualy goes into the car? Or do i sit the clip, retainer inside the diff, than bolt the bearing cup with the bearing on top of that, than slide the axles in and they'll just all kinda work together and go in/on? That circlip thing wont go anywhere else?

    Cheers,

I havent had any luck yet. But when putting the diff together with new bearings and stuff, you basically get three main things, the bearing, the retainer and a circlip thingy...

The bearing goes into the cup that holds it which than goes onto the diff. I assume the retainer goes into the axle before the bearing and cup goes on with the backing plate.
Now where im stuck is where does this snap ring go? On the axle or somewhere inside the diff?!

Im thinking on the axle and i have to belt the sh*t outa it to get the axle into the car??

the snap ring goes behind the spacer on the axle
there will be a little groove for it to locate on

    1. press bearing onto the axle (the correct way)with axle out of the car
    2. press on retainer/spacer or heat up and drop on behind bearing
3.fit circlip onto rear of retainer make sure it locates in the groove
4.fit axle into diff housing doing up the 4 14mm bolts but when you put in axle be careful of the seal

So i fit the backing plate and cup permanently to the axle? I remember pulling the axles out of the car with out the backing plate,cup,bearing,retainer...

Or do i fit it all as one this time, and when removing later will the axle be able to come free without the rest?
