Good advice Broken22. IN fact, the Jaycar circuit board cleaner is just acetone in an aerosol can

Vios - yeah i can do that i spose, so long as you can be without an ECU for a week or so (i dont have heaps of spare time these days).

I "purchased" a 3SGE ECU from U-Steal-It last weekend cos someone had pulled it and then just left it on the seat. It has a 15uF capacitor in it that could be cannibalised and used when replacing.

Or you can just do the parallel. Same thing really, just looks a bit ghetto. Will definately be checking the 1J one when i get my frontcut.

would it be be better to just get the 2 parallel caps instead though? I mean your taking a bit of a chance that the 3s ones wont fail later on.

Karl, roughly how much would you want to do caps? PM me a price if you want.

yes I know and I know he is tlaking aussie because of the self serve wrecker but I just think that its already second hand and in a questionable state before you put heat on it two more times to desolder it and resolder it. I mean if two new caps are so cheap why bother?

20 years of service isnt bad from these nichicon caps. i have had many cheap caps blow/leak within he first few years on motherboards and power supplies.

Just about to replace all the 1jz ecu caps will report back on findings. (car died on me while driving suspect ECU)

well i replaced my caps with jap caps from RS, mix of nichicon, rubycon and panasonic.

most of the caps were indeed farked, but someone had obviously been here before. There was a 10UF phillips cap in place of wheret the old 15uf nichicon should of been! and some no name caps were installed aswell -

I replaced the whole lot, tried the supra out still got the same problem dam!! BUT the car is much smoother! the idle problem is fixed and the engine is just much smoother! power felt better too! but then it got a bit worse as the ECU relearned -

after boosting i smelt a stinky burning smell (not clutch or tires) could be my cat maybe? anyway that's for another thread.

Still got 4x sets of these caps as i had to order a minimum of 5 for everything. (if anyone is interested)
