    Default Engine Options

Although the lack on an income has stopped any progress on my Celica, I figured I should try and field some ideas for an engine conversion. 1. Keep it in the family, get a 18RG or a 3S motor or 2. Ive flirted with the idea of getting a Cosworth motor brought in from the States. I know these options will end up costing a fortune, but seeing as I'm broke, I guess I can dream. Any other ideas??? Input would be appreciated.

    Cheers

If you're not going to stay in the family, then skip the Cosworth motor and go for a Ford/Mazda Duratech 23... (Same as what comes in the Mazda SP23)

One of the best (if not the best) 4 Cylinder engines available... Known for their ability to produce 300hp+ (224kW+) N/A reliably...

in all reality you can do anything depending on the depth of your pocket and what your end result will be used for, as in how legal you go with it.
toyota has a great range of engines to choose from. search the members rides section to see the variety of conversions and how people do them, alot are very educational, some just say "I got a workshop to do it".. depends on your level of mechanical skill.

This will severely limit your options. Talk of 3S and 1UZ conversions is all well and good, but there's not much point if you don't have the budget to see it through.

For a cheap conversion an 18R-G is the obvious choice as it's pretty much just bolt in and go. For something more modern I'd go with a 4A of some description as they're cheap and give you multiple upgrade paths (turbo, supercharger etc).

The Cosworth engines are the Duratech 2.3L and come stock with 220HP for the cheapest motor. 250HP for the best one.

As for being broke, I don't intend to stay this way as I have a friend putting in a good word for me with an offshore drilling company. So I'm guessing my pockets will be reasonably deep.

My mechanical skills arent the best, but I've done a few courses through TAFE, so I know how to use workshop equipment. Plus, my old TAFE teachers told me I could come in any time to use the machines.

I assumed that by Cosworth motor, as most would, you were referring to the Cosworth BDA/BDG engines...
