Really 18RG/2TG depending which Celica you have. Anything else will be extraordinarily painful.

no i have not but I think that no engine this side of 1980 should have a problem breaking rocker arms. Now it is my personal opinion that this alone makes it a poorly engineered engine. I am not saying they cant make good power or that they are the single best bang for buck engine out there right now that I can see. I have multiple other things that I dont like about the engine but i have only ever had first hand experience with one of them and a smaller thing (oil fitting style used on the block) so I wont comment on them. If someone wants cheap power then yeah your upgrade choice is good, however I am a vicious driver and I am confident it wont last long the way I drive.

After going on a Celica cruse some time ago, I have to wonder if an engine upgrade is really the best direction for someone on a budget.

When I followed the older RA and TA's through the hills I noticed they were rather difficult to drive. Masses of body roll, lots of steering action and admittedly the engines were being flogged a lot harder, but the fact it looked so challenging while I was sitting in 3rd gear and turning with minimal effort makes me wonder if it's not more important to look at the suspension first. Not only is it cheaper, but it will last quite a long time - regardless of the future plans for engine upgrades

yeah its funny for the first time someone is talking about the "little brother" for once, the only problem I have heard of is that the oil rushes to the back of the head under high revs and cornering at the same time causing it to go out of the breather. I wonder if it would be possible to fix the problem by dilling and tapping into the head and having an external oil gallery? anyway for someone who wants a budget upgrade I agree with you. Apparently the sump lines up with a ae crossmember too.

edit: oh and I am tottaly with you myne, I think its scary some engine conversions people do with standard brakes and suspension.

suspesion is one of the main things that need to be changed. got some mates on the look out for a good set-up.

as for the CA18, I'd prefer it to an SR20, but still, I like my Celica. So I won't be taking the homo path and installing either of them.
