Default Need some help fixing cracks in dashboard

Hi everyone, 1st off i'm not sure if this is a "tech" question but i'm just after some ideas on how i could fill in/repair some cracks in my dashboard skin. I have about 5x 15cm cracks on the dash of my ra60.

Apart from getting a new dash pad or putting a dash matt over it, has anyone patched dash cracks up? I just want to make it look a bit better than it does now for the mean time until i find another dashpad.
I was thinking of filling them in with some sort of filler? silicone? then maybe some vinyl spray?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I suppose you could fill it with silicone etc, then get some trim/fabric/plastic dye and spray the whole dash... but that'll either require hours of masking or a dash out job. I'd highly recommend calling around your local wreckers and sourcing one (ra60, ra65, sa63)

a company refurbishes dashboards up in QLD but its bloody expensive.

as for finding a better one. i agree with Draven, try and find one in better condition than what you have would yield much better results than fixing the one you have. If you do go ahead and have any success then definitly make a how to thread.

    best of luck

There's a number of places around that do various stages of repairs, and some of them can do a pretty good job too, naturally at varying prices as well! Maybe try asking around a few used car dealers, see who they use. Sure, you can try filling it with something roughly and colouring it, but it will look fairly nasty.

Permatex makes a range of repair kits for dashboards and vinyl trims.

Checkout the video for the headlight restoration kit too. For plastic lens'. If it works half as good as the vid it'd be worth it.

I think it will be cheaper as well, getting a wrecked RA60 dashpad instead like I did with my ST162. If you do decide to patch it up yourself, there's a good spraypaint you can use for the finish which is designed for plastics and vinyls which I'm also currently using to freshen-up some weathered plastic bits on my new engine.
