Wasn't a "normal amount of smoke". I have tightened the IC piping and this seems to have helped it a lot. Still getting an error 22 and 51 even after I reset the computer and put it in neutral for the test. So I am guessing I need a new temp sensor. Dunno about the 51 though. Goes much harder now that I have got rid of some of the vacuum leaks. Still a few more to track down though. Can even see a hose just hanging off the throttle body.

keep in mind how old these motors are, and if your using anything of the same age for your cooler piping, especially rubber/silicone/hose clamps, your going to run into trouble.

your cooler may be damaged too..

51 - No "IDL, NSW or A/C" signal to ecu

So basically I need new water temp sensor and new AFM? The error 51 I assume is because I didn't have car in neutral when checking. Both these tie in with overfueling.
34- check all your clamps and pipes
51- could be an offset problem from 22. bad temp sensor sends bad signal to idle control valve then it sends the bad signal to the ecu, also check your plugs going down to the gearbox in the engine bay. the nuetral switch hooks into the ecu as well.

51 means the shifter is not in park or neutral, or the aircon is on and the fan is on, or the TPS is not in IDL.

If its an engine conversion, it just means something hasn't been wired properly, if its a factory fitment, then the TPS is not in IDL.

All codes gone. Seems this all stemmed from shitty mechanic. Before I got the car it had BHG and got redone.

Error 22 - Temp sensor wasnt hooked up properly, now car actually starts cold instead of flooding.

Error 51 - Really not sure but went away when I pulled the efi fuse to see if temp sensor was all good. I suspect something with aircon as the fan isnt working.

Error 34 - Hose clamps not done up tighty causing boost leaks and overfueling. Replaced all vac hoses also and some were hooked up wrong or not hooked up at all.

Car goes pretty nice now but seems to hate the hot days. Now why do I say shitty mechanic. When I asked the seller why there was a check engine light on the mechanic said "I don't have the tools to reset it". Makes me wonder about the quality of the BHG treatment.

Is there any problem checking the torque of the headbolts again and tightening if necessary? I heard a few conflicting arguments about this, but they were talking about a stock engine. Shouldn't be a problem if the cars only done 1000km since the head was done?
