ok i've looked what i did specifically for the 1G alternator in the 23. sorry i don't have photos as the wiring is in tape inside convoluted tube and i'm in Brisbane [away from home].

the regulator has 6pins but you only need 3. looking end on at the plug with clip at top you need top right [black w/ yellow - IG], bottom left [white - Voltage sense] and bottom centre [yellow/white - CHG light]
the alternator had a 3 pin round plug with 2 horizontal pins beside each other above a vertical pin in a "T" arrangement. again looking at the plug w/ clip at bottom. top left is IG [Black/Yellow wire] top right is CHG light [yellow/white wire] and bottom vertical pin is Voltage sense [white wire].
so, for me, it was white-white, yellow/white-yellow/white and Black/Yellow - Black/Yellow . the large post marked B+ connect to battery
    hope this helps

Hmmm I'm going home to check this myself. I kept my fuse box and plugged the remaining two wires up to the regulator plug but kept the sense wire going to the fuse box I think.

Now my charge light doesn't go off :S

photo's would help alot, ive already tried a couple of ways, copying off the old 1g23 and hash23 gave me a few pointers and the charge light doesnt seem to go away. ill put up a picture as soon as my computer is fixed of my alternator wiring as what has been described isnt lining up with what I see. On another note anyone know who can re-calibrate the stock tacho to read the 1g?

    search is your friend
    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=6300
i drilled a 3mm hole in the back of the case in this location [circled bottom right]
    http://www.geocities.com/hot_buoy/my_car_003_copy.jpg
that way with the case closed you can connect it up to normal wiring and get a small screwdriver in and adjust the pot down. you need an external tacho which will read 6 cyl input to calibrate [i have a tune up analyser which i've had forever].

this didnt work when it was wired in the last celica only the 2 small yellow/ black wires were plugged in and the large white wire was on the power terminal on the alternator itself? any ideas?

Is that your current setup? or your old one?

The thick wire in the picture above is the voltage sense wire. Looks hooked up correctly.

The yellow wire should go to one side of the charge light, and ensure that the other side of the charge light is the same as ignition (12v when key is on ignition and run, 0v otherwise)

The black wire should go directly to ignition.
    Current rides...
    2) White RA25ST
    1) Red RA28LT (NOW WITH 1G )
