On my car (20v ae86) i have 2 inch press bent with 2 mufflers and a cat. The cat recently shat itself so i just punched it out and it is a little louder than before, although it is still legal as i got pulledd over on the weekend and defected but they cleared the exhaust.

On my 20V I have 2" Press bent system with 4-2-1 Extractors, 2.5" Cat, Spiral Resonator and a SIngle muffler. It is way too lound, but it flows quite well. I don't think I would go much bigger, it just gets louder for no real gains. If you have cams, etce that's another story.
