    Default Building My own exhaust-Advice-Help

Hi, I have a 96 Toyota Hilux, with a 1ggte motor single turbo, no mods just stanard with standard computer.

I am building my own exhaust for it. I am proficient welder, I just need some advice on the exhaust specs:

I Understand that it should have one high flow muffler and one high flow cat, but will this keep it relatively quiet? What exhaust systems have other people used?
What (specifically) muffler and cat do you recommend.
it will be 3" all the way.

    cheers

Run a 3.5" or 4" dump pipe if you can and then just 3" for the final 2/3's of the way.

You will realistically need 2 High-Flow off the shelf Mufflers to get the noise down to something reasonable, or just PM RealRoadRunner and grab one of his mufflers that he has had luck with.

    agreed^^^
unfortunately you cant run 3.5" dumps in a hilux (well not if its ifs and you want good clearance without cutting the chassis) but the 2 mufflers i deffinately agree with.
a metal cat and 2 c/o 3' mufflers should have noise down and still flow enough for your needs.

being a 1g, i find them to be a relatively quiet motor, turbos themselves act as a muffler and smooth out the exhaust pulse's,

running a cat and a 3" straight thru should have you just on the legal DB limit, if you want it nice and quiet with just that rumble, go for 2 3" straight thrus,

if you go for just the one 3" muffler, get the desing as an OFFSET/OFFSET, so the gase's have to flow diagonally across the whole muffler chamber,

i only used to have one rear muffler and HOLLOW cat in the 23, and it was nice,

now its straigh thru with only a resonator and it was screaming!

btw, i work in an exhaust shop

I concur, the 1G is a fairly quiet engine. I have a 3" high-flow cat and a single 3" Lukey Ultraflo straight-through muffler, and it's not too loud at all.
