Shine a light on what... the problem?

As suggested above, timing or fuel sounds like the cause... youll have to do more diagnostics to work out the exact problem.
Even if you cant find a working RA65 fuel pump (i find this *very* hard to believe), youll be able to use one out of another car with some tinkering.

If the seller wont let you play with the car to work out the exact problem before sale... well its your gamble.

My RA60 had a dead fuel pump, and a very similiar problem. I replaced the pump with the old one I removed from the Celsior (like most of the Toyota pumps, easy fit straight in place), and that fixed it straight away. Even a new pump will only be a bit over $100. Change the filter and clean the tank at the same time, and you should have a few more years of happy (thirsty, gutless!) motoring.

Check the fuel pressure, ignition, etc. first though and be sure what the problem is.

had it for 30 mins today.

Ok the oil is a normal color

i think there is somthing wrong with the ignition- When the car is running there is a clicking sound constantly going and it could be in a cylender.

There also is a smell of fuel when the car starts up- i am not sure how much the car had but it went through a bit of fuel.

It wont rev over 2-3k when driving when its cold but once its warmed up it goes very well - it seemed to warm up quickly too. in 10 mins it was at half way or just under.

the air filter has a hose running off it that jolts when the car backfires this may have somthing to do with it-

    any ideas?

Do a diagnostics check and see if there are any codes? if that ignitor is faulty it will show that in a code.
