#2 120kpa
#3 80 - 90kpa
#4 10 - 30kpa
thats a BHG.. if its full of caramel its time to push it into the shed and start pulling it apart.

As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are
start unbolting.. its obvisouly really odne a gasket or possibly a crack in the head itself.
pull it off send the head off to the machine shop to check for cracks and machine. then asses wether just drop a second hand motor in or its worth fixing
30kpa OUCH! sounds like bottom end is gone too...

not nesecarily. i had a bgh on the 4ag and it had massivly blown out the fire rings and was only putting down 20 odd psi on two clys.
yeah true. old jag i had was running 5 out of 6 cyl at normal compression.
the last one had zero compression and would just bob up and down uselessly. problem was solved by replacing piston rings and gaskets![]()

dude.. thats just from condensationcover up the breather and you'll be right

yup thats shagged
but one bore has nicely been steam cleaned for you
personally i tend to clean it with a scotchbrite pad and thinners. periodically blasting with compressed air to get rid of the crud.. remember safety glasses. blowing out bits of crud soaked in thinners is something you dont want in your eye.
so i pretty much have everything back together. just one problem. the distributor has no numbers on itand i dont know which lead goes where.
theres 2 pulsar forums i've been trying to get onto but neither seem to work.
whats the best way to find out which leads goes where?
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are
i assume the dizzy has some match marks so you know how to align it.. get #1 cyl at TDC. align the dizzy into place. work out which direction it rotates then hook up leads in the firing order of the engine. usually 1342
ok i actually finally got the car running.... just
it sounds pretty lumpy, and i'm not sure if its a timing issue. but.....
i looked behind the car at the exhaust, and there's a fair bit of water chugging out the or the pipeand there's a decent amount of it as well. does this mean the head gasket hasn't sealed everything up properly?
any info again would be appreciated

good chance of it.
have you done a compression test now youve got it back together.
is it consuming coolant ?
yeah consuming coolant... i'll do another comp test...
got about 120 over all 4 cylinders.
there's ton's of white smoke coming out of the exhaust. so i'm gonna assume when the head gasket went the head must have warped or cracked. spark plugs have a black powder on them.

did you check the head for straightness and flatness ? and also use a penetrant dye to check for cracks.
