Is just your typical macpherson strut, threaded nut at the top, slide the insert in and stick the nut over the shaft.Originally Posted by merc-blue
yeah that is true, im not sure what a R31 strut looks like,
if its like a TA22 strut where the LCA and ball join comes up the guts it means you will need custom inserts, but if its off centered of you have access to the bottom of the strut tube then you just drill a hole, and put a little sleve so the adjuster isnt on the bottom of the tube,
Adjustable bump and rebound really is the way to go, becasue they both have dramatic effect, its like putting on good semi slicks but not being able to set pressures, you get half of a good thing

yeah im talking about the bottom, where the LCA ball join joins up, some make it very hard others make it simple
Ahh yeah fair enoughOriginally Posted by merc-blue
So your typical externally adjustable shock is just rebound adjustable?

Give Toperformance a call.
They are the main importer of Koni shocks into Aus.
They are very good over the phone, and will tell you what will fit and a price.

Cheers guys, will ring around now that i have measurements
The shock is 42mm diameter, 367mm tall in the body. 230mm shaft length with 185mm of travel.

aw11 rears with a spacer on the bottom will fit for sure but only run a 20mm shaft.
see if someone can give you the body od of sw20 rears as they run a 22mm shaft but i have a feeling they will be 43-44mm od (i havn't got any in stock to measure).
whats the id of the strut tube?
cheers
linden
ps all the other measurements will be correct for the mr2 rears

That doesn't have to match perfectly, as it stands the measurement i have now is 90mm from the top of the nut that holds the shock in to the strut to the bottom of my camber plate (ie with no spring hat or anything, just dummy fitted sitting on top). So shorter should still be fine, the idea is to have the car sitting in the middle 1/3rd of the range of travel yeah?
New to this, the help is appreciated
ed: Will get ID of strut tube next time i'm at the car

no i was talking about the shaft od, the 20mm ones may flex/bend if given a hard time.

oh the irony i have a set of sw20 konis i picke dup today.
the OD of the strut casing it is 44.5mm both front and rear
Haha thanks dude, i'll have to see how much room to move in the tube there is. How long is the body of the shock?Originally Posted by TooF
What variety of koni did you buy?
Oh and for the record, R31 has 22mm shaft OD as well.

ill measure it when i get home for you.
and they are koni yellows. this is the first time ive used them for an sw20 (not my car) but ive installed almost a dozen of them into aw11s (different part numbers) and they work an absolute treat.
the rear aw11 units are pretty chunky i have a set of fronts (aw11) at home but the rears are still on backorder and wont be here for about 3weeks so i cant give you a measurement until then... or actually i think i have a couple of TOKICO rear aw11 units sitting in the shed i can check out for you.
the sw20 and aw11 rears are about 365mm so you will just need some washers in there.
the sw20 rears are just a thicker version of the aw11 but the lengths are pretty much the same.
cheers
