Default RA28 Diff - They keep blowing - What can i do ?

    Hey guys,

I keep blowing diffs on my RA28 and i have no idea why...
No burnouts or any of that s#!t, they just keep blowing...

    Any ideas...?

Is there another option ? Possibly a bigger, stronger one, like a hilux diff or something ?
And how much is that gonna cost me...?

bout a $1200 and you'll have a hilux diff under the car

hilux diff ~$500 unless you get lucky like me

go to diff shop, get mounts off t series onto g series ~$400

custom tailshaft $150 to shorten, $450 for a complete 1 piece

    lsd centre about $300 - $400

volvo 240 diff $100-200 at wreckers, 264mm solid disc's, twin piston calipers
masive unbreakable axles, centres are almost indistructable, (ive broken one...from giving it everything at the drags)...
    swap mounts over,

then you dont have ghey drums like the hilux's and you dont have to fork out extra cah for the disc conversion....

    blake

EDIT: plus there is atleast another 50 threads on this same topic, its all been covered before, try searching

I've done regular clutch dumps from 6000-7000 on a standard T series ra23 with 1g-gte. I blew one diff in 3 months, the second one is still going. Your problem could possibly be with a bent housing. I went through 6 diffs in a kingswood, some would blow with no stress at all, turned out the actual housing was bent, and overstressing everything. Might be worth looking into, otherwise I like the borg warner diff's. strong, light, easy to get LSD centres, good choice of ratio's etc

There's no point spending that sort of money on a diff conversion when you have an 18R-C. Obviously something is awry if you keep blowing them, a stock T series diff should be more than adequate for that sort of power. Take it to a diff shop and get their opinion, could be something like a bent axle? How exactly do they break?

I've always found that putting oil in diffs after putting them back together tends to make them last sooooooo much longer...

Bent axle, imbalanced driveshaft, crap in the oil etc etc can all lead to very premature diff failure. I have a 2T-G with 100kw @ rear wheels and havent blown a std diff racing it and doing autocross's/motorkhanas.

Straight swap from a Volvo to a Toyota? In your dreams!

Any diff swap will require cutting and welding, ie unnecessary expense. Find out why you're blowing stock diffs first, this should not be happening!

agreed ... check out your current 1 first.

are you breaking centres ? axles?

normally a T will munch the centre 1st .... once you lsd or weld the centre then the axles start going from what ive witnessed.

i dont think even a on the spot ripper from a RC could even make a T diff laugh let alone break .... smething has to be wrong.
