Try a search ...... we have had this topic before....
From memory there is also some caustic degreaser that gets rid of that stuff no prob.

Just had a dig around and found that thread i was on about....

I got the same problem at the moment, esp. after the shitload of rain we just had, and the engine being outdoors...
I got some stuff called Blitz which is aluminium cleaner, but highly corrosive. "cleans stains and oxid(is)ation from aluminium & stainless steel"... apparently you have to dilute the mix, wear gloves and brush this stuff on. the entire intake, runners & rocker cover need a good go.
That sounds abit like that caustic degreaser i have. Great stuf but dont leave it on alloy too long as it eats it!
used for the right amount of time it will bring alloy up like new!

a mild remover would be a compound called "Aluminum Jelly" deoxidizes.
http://www.chooseaglue.com/repairs.a...=5&Product=170DuroŽ Aluminum Jelly Corrosion Remover
Restores and brightens dull, oxidized aluminum in minutes
Quickly and easily removes layers of "white rust," dirt and grime -- simply brush on and rinse off
Information is POWER... learn the facts!!
Would a regular degreaser do any good? I also have this on my intake plenum and makes it look pretty dodgy.

nah i doubt regular degreaser will do anything to it.

no need for anything too special/fancy. Just some mag wheel cleaner will bring a nice shine to alloy. It's probably cheaper than all the special stuff anyway.
Use an old toothbrush to scrub for extra shine, and make sure to wipe off with wet cloth as it is acid based.
Some form of acid, is really required, particularly in th case of the runners in the pic above. Or you will have to use mechanicl cleaning. When Aluminium alloy corrodes, it opens up like the pores in your skin, when you get hot. Have a talk to a shop that anodises aluminium, as I know they acid wash, rinse, phosphate dip, and then anodize. The last step of the anodising process, involves "closing the pores"

QFT. I degreased the rest of the engine with almost two full cans of degreaser and that brought up a shine in most places as I'm guessing this engine hadn't been in an engine bay for some time. this is what the degreaser left behind... numerous cleaners of varying grades couldn't get this shit off.Originally Posted by 30psi 4agte
to me that warranted a stronger type of alum cleaner, which is what Blitz is. it's that bright-pink stuff which was mentioned in the other thread above, and needs to be diluted approx. 300ml to 1L of water for the job I gotta do on it.
to be honest I was going to attack the runners with a Dremel, but I didn't wanna spoil the finish of the castings.
2000grit wet n dry and lots of elbow grease, then some clear![]()
yep that pink shit is the stuff i ave! Great stuff...... burns the lungs if you breathe it in , will eat the alloy if you leave it on tooo long !
My type of stuff
It really needs to be some sort of caustic style of solution to really have much of an effect.
Could try baking powder / draino / caustic soda / oven cleaner![]()
Not too sure on the above lot ....but some of em may have some effect.
Or you can just go buy the pink shit. - I have a 20L drum.Im not sure if they sell it in any smaller size as it is sort of an industrial chemical.
