    Default running no BOV

i think my BOV might be leaking, i was going to get a spare and weld the piston shut to see if it leaking, if it turns out it is, would it be ok to run it like that for a while at the racing events till i get a new aftermarket one.

    i'm auto remember

Ive only ever had no BOV on my 4agte till recently. All it would do is flutter like a hektic vl dose through the air filter/air box. Conflicting reports on damage of turbos or not. I guess i would depend on what sort of psi you are running.

Maybe lower it to stock boost for the testing time?

as said there was actually a thread at some point about whether it was safe or not, i dont see it being a problem, especially for a short period.

Haha, my turbos must be smashing themselves to pieces. Ironically, a lot of BOV's are to make it quieter

I can understand that, when I got the lexus it had no BOV. The reversion noise was revolting

Not that an atmo turbosmart dual port is much quieter

    Hi,

I don't run a BOV on my cars, and it's never given me a problem.

Yes, but if you had one maybe your corolla could beat the joggers up the hill near your house!

when i mention i have no BOV, most people fill me in on the concept 'having no BOV will ruin your turbos after time'

i just reply; "my engine has done 140 000ks without a BOV, and so have the other 10,000 odd 1Gs "

No blow off on the 1g's.... I swear mine has some form of plumb back valve.

I know lots of people say they dont, but jumping off the throttle i can hear some form of boost pressure release.... someone clarify? Havent really played with the motor much. Suppose if i did i could work out what was going on....

    time to investigate....

problem being only getting positive pressure under load, which means driving it.... hmmmm

Factory BOVs are there just to make things quieter...all plumb back obviously.

Big boost with efficient inlet plumbing can cause issues with no BOV as the reflected pressure wave on throttle closure does shock the comp wheel. Have never seen this cause a prob on a street car and have only ever seen one failure on a race car.

Maybe long term a BOV does reduce turbo bearing wear but i know i'll never own the same turbo long enough to test

Short answer is, you'll have no issues other than the fluttering sound of compressor surge.
