For a W58 transmission you'll need a 2JZ-GE bellhousing (JZA80 Supra).
I strongly recommend an R154 though; heavy car + turbo torque = unhappy W58. In that case you want bellhousing + transmission from a JZA70.
Hey dudes / dudettes.
I'm undertaking a conversion on a mates car during the christmas holidays, so i'm doing my research early. Going from 7MGE Auto to 1JZ-GTE + W58 in his MX83 cressida.
Now i was wondering which bellhousing i need to use, as we're going to start stockpiling parts soon. JZA70 maybe?
I've had a search but i can't find anything concrete. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that norbie.
I've talked over the R154 or W58 thing with him, and we've agreed to use a W58 because:
They are alot more common
They are comparativley cheap as chips, which is an issue, considering we're doing this for under $5k
and there is no trans tunnel modification required to fit one in an MX83. (main reason)
If he blows it up then we think about a R154.
Also i'm after a bit of info regarding the clutch / flywheel assembly:
We will be using a JZX81 front-cut, as they make the whole operation almost bolt in, if you're keeping it auto.
However, will i be able to bolt up a standard 1JZ clutch/pressure plate to the auto flywheel?
I have my doubts, but if anyone knows if i can / what clutch + flywheel combo should be used, it'd be much appreciated.

NO you can't bolt up a clutch / pressure plate to the auto flex plateOriginally Posted by Javal
Totally different beasts!
If you are going to use a W58 with a 2JZ-GE bellhousing then a flywheel to fit a 2JZ-GE with an uprated clutch / pressure plate is the way to go
Bear in mind that there will be a fair amount of cost if you do decide to upgrade to the R154 later (new flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, etc)....
Cheers

Thanks guys.

Dude good luck finding a 2jz bell housing. I hunted everywhere for my mates one and luckly enough brenton from fours n more had one at a pretty penny though.
Think it was $600 for bell housing and flywheel.
Fair better off with the r154 alot easier and cheaper in the long run

Yes you can and they're actually not that expensive, especially if you know someone who can get it at trade!

send a PM query to Wildsupra
his 1JZ into MA61 used a W58 gearbox succesfully just recently.
he will be able to tell you exactly what clutch/ flywheel/ bellhousing/ mounts and any other random parts you will need and where to find them.
(sorry, i can't remember of the top of my head - so better to ask him)
