    Default How to fix dodgy/loose ECU plug connections??

    So I've been mucking around with my 1JZ conversion for months trying to figure out why it sometimes starts fine and sometimes not at all, tried swapping ECU's, checking all the wiring etc...

    But tonight I found out that one of the plugs going to the ECU seems to have loose pin connectors. It's plug X, when I push on it only slightly (or even tilt the ECU) the car stalls, I think I've tracked it down to be pin 17 (IGF)

    What can I do to 'tighten' all the ecu pins to this plug? I've thought about just applying a layer of silicon to the outside where the wires come out to try and hold them steady, or maybe take each pin out (of the plug) and try to clamp them tighter with pliers...? Any suggestions?

    i had the exact same problem.

    i pull the offending pin out, cleaned both the pin and the tunnel it belonged to in the plug.

    while it was out i neatened the pin up, pulled the retaining pin out further so it locks in better.

    havent had a problem since.

    Cheers, got it all running sweet now.

    I pulled out and tightened all the pins on plug X, but that didn't fix the problem, turned out to be the pins on plug U so I did them as well and now it's fixed

    Interesting stuff, I've been having some intermittant probs (at times no throttle response at all, sometimes idle drops right down or stalls) with my VVT 1J, cleaned just about every plug in the engine bay, hadn't thought of the ECU side.
